@ognibedj @GunOwnersofCana As a Canadian, no one in Canada hates Americans. Rational people are capable of distinguishing anger at the absurd decisions of a deranged man in charge (an opinion we now share with some 64% of you) from the people. We're not the ones calling for you to be our 11th province.

@GunOwnersofCana I remember that all of our previous governments (Grit or Tory) sincerely participated in the free trade project with our southern neighbour. And our southern neighbour arbitrarily slapped sanctions on us. Let's get real, please. What do hockey fans have to do with steel quotas?

Let’s be clear….this has been a Liberal Dream since Pierre “Idiot” Trudeau. He despised the USA and our dependence on it for economic trade. As a card holding “Communist” …he was never allowed entry into America ,…except on official State business. He always talked about expanding and substituting Trade with Europe. Even going as far,….at great economic costs to both Manufacturing and Consumers , forcing our entire Nation into Metric. It was sold at the time as a way to easily trade with Europe …yet not one single pallet of additional goods were sold. 😡 It was all a hoax…a Liberal pipe dream …but one they have never abandoned. Here we are again…same pipe dream, same reckless public policy , same anti American agenda…..Canada will pay a heavy price for this nonsense

@MelissaLantsman Wait, was Mark Carney the one who ripped up a trade agreement that he himself had renegotiated 5 years ago for absolutely no reason? ... no. But sure, the fact that hockey fans can sing is absolutely an accurate metric for complex trade relations.

Gotta love the British king taking credit for something liberal Canadian nationalists like to claim “Canada” did. It’s also funny how little Charles clearly cares or even thinks about Canada given how much hope liberal Canadian nationalists have invested in him.

King Charles: I cannot help noticing the readjustments to the East Wing. I'm sorry to say that we British of course made our own small attempt at real estate redevelopment of the White House in 1814.

Armenia Unveils New Red Biometric Passport Design, Mount Ararat Absent ➖➖➖ Armenia has unveiled the design of its new biometric passport, set to roll out in the autumn of 2026 with a shift from dark blue to red and a complete visual overhaul of its interior pages. Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan presented the redesign on Tuesday to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, framing it as both a technical upgrade aligned with international standards and a visual narrative of Armenian identity. But one absence has already drawn debate: Mount Ararat, omitted from the passport's depiction of Khor Virap monastery, the site most famous for its view of the mountain across the border in Turkey. Move Toward International Standards Sargsyan said the new system is designed to bring Armenia's identity documents in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard 9303, which governs globally recognized travel documents. She noted that the country's previous infrastructure no longer met international requirements. "The infrastructure that existed in 2022 has no connection to international standards," she said, adding that the goal is to issue biometric documents compatible with modern technologies and recognizable at border checkpoints around the world. The reform traces back to an August 2024 government decision to issue new biometric passports and ID cards. The tender was awarded to a French consortium of IDEMIA Identity Security France and A.C.I. Technology, which created HAYPASS, the entity now implementing the system in Armenia. The agreement with HAYPASS was signed in April 2025. The choice of a French infrastructure partner places a tangible European pillar beneath Armenia's broader pivot toward the European Union, moving the relationship from rhetoric to physical infrastructure embedded in one of the most sensitive systems a state operates. A central component of the project is the construction of a new data center to handle biometric records, alongside an ongoing memorandum with ICAO that will make Armenian documents readable and verifiable in partner countries. The new passports will incorporate advanced security mechanisms, including ultraviolet protection layers and a range of physical safeguards designed to meet contemporary anti-fraud standards. Pashinyan said the introduction of biometric passports is also tied to Armenia's broader goal of visa liberalization with the European Union, supporting negotiations that would eventually allow Armenian citizens to travel to EU countries without visas. The New Passport Design The interior of the new passport has been completely reworked, moving away from the previous uniform pages bearing only the coat of arms. The cover, in deep red with the Armenian coat of arms in gold, opens onto an inside spread featuring the outline map of Armenia on the left and the coat of arms alongside the document's official text on the right. The coat of arms, with Mount Ararat and Noah's Ark at its center, is also watermarked across every interior spread, anchoring the document in the state symbol that has carried Ararat since Armenia's independence. From there, the document unfolds as a visual narrative beginning with the origins of the Armenian nation and continuing through key moments of its history. Running through the design is the Armenian alphabet created by Mesrop Mashtots, alongside the first sentence ever written in Armenian: "To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding." Several letters are emphasized with symbolic weight, including Ա for freedom and independence, Ե for happiness, Է as a reference to God in Classical Armenian, Ժ for the people, Ի for sovereignty, Խ for peace, Կ for life, Հ for Armenia, Մ for human, Ջ for water as a symbol of life, Ո for law and legality, Պ for the state, Ս for love, and Ք for Christ, reflecting Armenia as the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion. The first illustrated spread depicts Hayk Nahapet, the legendary founder of the Armenian nation, drawing his bow atop a rock formation, with ancient petroglyphs from the Geghama Mountains and Ukhtasar carved into the stones beside him. The narrative continues with the cuneiform inscription marking the founding of Erebuni in 782 BC, the Artaxiad Boundary Stone of the 2nd century BC depicted alongside farmers plowing the land, and the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin commemorating Armenia's adoption of Christianity in 301 AD. The Temple of Garni, dating to 77 AD, anchors the country's pre-Christian heritage. Modern symbols of statehood follow, including the Residence of the President, and Yerevan is further represented through the Cascade Complex, with a tribute to Alexander Tamanyan, the architect recognized as the founder of modern Armenian urban planning. Ararat, Absent The depiction of Khor Virap monastery has drawn the most attention. The monastery is internationally known for offering one of the most striking views of Mount Ararat, and is among the most photographed sites in Armenia precisely because of that backdrop. In the new passport, Khor Virap is rendered from an elevated, aerial angle, looking outward across the Ararat plain, with distant foothills traced into the horizon but Mount Ararat itself absent from the frame. The omission has prompted criticism on social media, with some defending it as a deliberate aesthetic choice and others reading it as the latest move in a broader policy. The decision reflects a wider shift in official symbolism under the current government. In recent years, Pashinyan has stated that Mount Ararat should not serve as a symbol of Armenia, a position that has generated sustained public criticism. The stance is closely tied to his "Real Armenia" narrative, which emphasizes state symbolism grounded in internationally recognized territory and elevates Mount Aragats, Armenia's highest peak within its current borders, as the alternative national reference point. The shift has also taken concrete administrative form. In 2025, Mount Ararat was removed from Armenia's passport border stamps, a decision that triggered public backlash. Pashinyan defended the change as part of a sovereignty-driven approach, while critics described it as a departure from longstanding national imagery. The tension is sharpened by what the new passport does still carry. While the discretionary illustrations omit Ararat, the official coat of arms placing the mountain and Noah's Ark at the center of Armenia's national identity remains on the cover and on every interior page, an inherited state symbol the design could not edit out. Contactless Border Crossings Alongside the passport reform, Armenia will introduce automated, contactless border-crossing systems at major checkpoints, including airports. Citizens holding biometric passports will be able to scan their documents and pass through without direct interaction with border officers, significantly speeding up travel. "With the introduction of biometric passports, we will implement a model of border crossing without human contact," Pashinyan said, adding that the system will be deployed at all major entry points. The autumn 2026 rollout is positioned as a foundational step in Armenia's visa liberalization process with the European Union, a process that will be measured not only by what the new passport allows Armenian citizens to do at foreign borders, but also by how the country chooses to represent itself on the page they hand across the counter.

Russia has temporarily banned the sale of Armenian Jermuk mineral water, according to Russian media reports published today, in a move that comes amid escalating trade pressure on Yerevan in recent weeks. The country’s consumer rights watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, has circulated a letter calling for “urgent measures to prevent possible harm to the life and public health of Russian citizens,” citing unspecified “violations of mandatory requirements” as the reason for the restriction. According to the Russian outlet RBC, more than 300,000 bottles of Jermuk water already inside Russia have been blocked for the time being. Jermuk is one of Armenia’s most recognizable brands, producing mineral water sourced from the spa town of the same name, located in the Vayots Dzor province. As of early 2024, Jermuk mineral water exports to Russia had grown to more than 15.2 million liters per year. In its statement today, Armenia’s food safety watchdog said it had yet to receive a notice on the matter from Russian authorities and would issue an update shortly. The restriction follows a series of new trade measures imposed by Moscow after a tense April 1 meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Putin criticized Armenia’s efforts to deepen ties with the European Union, which Russia considers an unfriendly bloc. He also implicitly warned that Armenia could lose its preferential pricing on Russian natural gas if it moves toward EU membership or withdraws from the Moscow-led Eurasian Economic Union. Armenia insists it has no intention to do so in the near-term. The meeting was followed by increased scrutiny of Armenian imports and sharper public criticism of Yerevan’s foreign policy by Russian officials. Earlier this month, Russia also resumed a long-running criminal investigation into a fatal poisoning of a Russian citizen, which authorities claim may have been linked to the consumption of Jermuk water.

Satellite images show churches demolished in Karabakh, sparking dispute Two Christian churches in Khankendi, the largest city in Karabakh, have been demolished, according to satellite images verified by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. High-resolution images taken on April 26 and reviewed by the outlet show that the Holy Mother of God Cathedral - the city’s main place of worship - and a nearby parish building have been removed. The images also indicate that St. Jacob’s Church has been demolished. Reports of the cathedral’s destruction first emerged in Armenian media in mid-April. Earlier, lower-resolution satellite images had suggested damage, but the latest imagery provides clearer confirmation. The cathedral, located in a city Armenians know as Stepanakert, was built between 2006 and 2019. In addition to serving as a religious centre, its basement was used as a shelter during recent conflicts in the 2020s. St. Jacob’s Church, completed in 2007, was funded by Armenian-American philanthropist Nerses Yeprimyan in memory of his son. The Armenian Apostolic Church accused Azerbaijan on April 23 of deliberately targeting Armenian Christian heritage in an attempt to erase the region’s Armenian presence. Azerbaijani officials rejected the allegations. MP Elnara Akimova told the Azerbaijani service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that the claims were a “provocation by revanchist forces” aimed at damaging the country’s image. She said Azerbaijan’s state policy was to preserve religious and historical monuments and denied any intention to destroy cultural heritage. A request for comment sent to Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry was not answered. The findings come amid longstanding tensions over cultural heritage in the region. The monitoring group Caucasus Heritage Watch has previously accused Armenian authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh of neglecting Azerbaijani heritage sites, though there have been no confirmed reports of mosque demolitions. More than 100,000 ethnic Armenians fled Karabakh following a series of military operations by Azerbaijan, which regained full control of the region in September 2023 after decades of de facto Armenian administration. The reports have fuelled political debate in Armenia ahead of parliamentary elections, with critics accusing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of failing to respond adequately. Pashinyan said his government was seeking to verify the information but urged caution, adding that Armenia was unlikely to escalate the issue to the level of international state discussions. The photo shows the square in Khankendi where the Cathedral of the Holy Protection of the Virgin Mary once stood, showing the site before and after the church was demolished.
