Today's dodgy old slide from the loft archive - a pre-rebuild Manchester Victoria with 25284 & 25173 adding a light haze of diesel exhaust to the atmosphere on Friday 29th May 1981. #Raturday

Happy New Year. Here's 24084 in the con yard at Swindon, with a gleaming David Murray John Tower in the background. It's 10 October 1978. LZI is on regardless. 📷 ©️ Pete Wilcox. Click the link to see his Flickr selection. flickr.com/photos/glevumb…

A dubious quality image but if you were there.....you'll know. A freezing dawn at Doncaster on 30th December 1981 and 55017 calls on its final run to Edinburgh with 1S12, the 0550 Kings Cross - Aberdeen. It was switched off for the final time the next day. #FiftyFivesOnFriday

On this day Dinting viaduct on the 30th December 1969. D6968 is in charge of the Manchester Piccadilly to Harwich boat train working via Sheffield Victoria. Some very interesting coaching stock is in tow, including the Gresley buffet. © George Woods

I usually do a month by month review of the year but this year there was a standout railway event for me that eclipsed everything else. On 26/5/25 @LocoServicesGrp 45118 worked the Master Cutler tour from Leeds to London St.Pancras & back. 📸 1Z45 Kettering & STP, 1Z48 Kettering.

The grim reaper pulls another pair of 455s for scrap. All the delays and traffic let the RA HST power cars pass at just the right time at Olympia.

The final HST from Exeter St Davids After almost 50 years, the public service of the HST in the south west comes to an end today. GWR's oldest power car, 43004 Caerphilly Castle had the honour of leading the 0800 Exeter St Davids to Penzance with classmate 43186 Taunton Castle.

What a fabulous send off to the HST at Plymouth...3 of the 4 sets in service all lined up ready to head to Laira depot for one last time. Plymouth welcomed its first HST on 10 April 1977. Tonight it will wave goodbye to its last when the 4th set finishes just before midnight.

From the big bridge that separates the fantastic counties of Devon & Cornwall, to the incredible sea wall at Dawlish. From the amazing train shed at Penzance to the semaphores of Liskeard. These incredible workhorses have kept the South West moving for decades 🫡

With HSTs on the Great Western coming to an end, I thought I’d repost a few of my pictures from when they were brand new. The Sea Wall again. Only that low wall between you and the trains
