After 19 years, it happened again. Lava from Piton de la Fournaise has reached the Indian Ocean. 🌋

Tropical Cyclone 20S (Mitchell) has been spotted in the southern Indian Ocean, adding another system to the 2025–2026 cyclone season. According to the Pacific Disaster Center, the storm developed near Western Australia and was first tracked as an invest before being classified as a numbered tropical cyclone. Although Mitchell is not expected to become a major cyclone, it’s a notable late-season system. @RainViewer Actually, this may just be for American radar sources based on some testing. I can zoom in much further in Europe and still see radar data.

Hey @RainViewer, it seems like there's an issue where the RainViewer API isn't loading in on maps when zoomed in past a certain point. You can see this using something like Merry Sky (merrysky.net). This a bug, or a change in what's being offered via the API?

On Feb 25, a mud volcano (diapir) erupted near San Juan de Urabá, Colombia - releasing mud, gas, and ignited methane. Roads were damaged, vegetation burned, animals killed. No human injuries reported. Unlike magmatic volcanoes, mud volcanoes form when pressurized fluids and methane rise through faulted sediments. Northern Colombia is known for gas-rich layers and multiple mud volcano systems.
