Sustained investment in health systems is essential for improving population wellbeing and driving national development, Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga has said. Speaking during Africa Press Day 2026, held today in Nairobi under the theme “Health: What Is It Worth?”, Dr Oluga emphasised that health should be viewed not as a cost but as a strategic investment in economic growth and social equity. The forum brought together policymakers, health experts, innovators and development partners from across Africa to examine the value of investing in health systems and strengthening healthcare delivery across the continent. Discussions focused on strengthening resilient health systems, expanding access to quality care, advancing cancer services and leveraging digital health innovation. Stakeholders also underscored the need for early diagnosis, integrated care models and stronger public–private partnerships to improve health outcomes. Dr Oluga reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening specialised medical services and accelerating progress towards Universal Health Coverage, positioning health as a key driver of sustainable development and national productivity.

The pre-colonial Agîkûyû did not believe in heaven or hell. We did not believe in a devil either. Those concepts were introduced to us in the 20th Century by missionaries. We also did not believe in the idea of death. So, what was our concept of the afterlife? A thread 🧶 (1/9)

@LiberalMind11 @AgikuyuWomen Great story! This takes me down memory lane, I recall my grandmother, aunties and uncles reciting these stories around the fire at night and scaring us soo much, they would taunt us when we tried to go play outside that we would be eaten my the 1 👁️’d marimū

I'm very frustrated that global leaders are still not giving the climate emergency the action and investment it requires. Words are not enough. Without #ClimateAction, climate catastrophe is coming for all of us.

The Sanitation & Hygiene Fund
Many girls are forced to skip school or leave school altogether when they start menstruating because their school lacks the #health and #hygiene facilities that would allow them to manage their periods with dignity. It's time to make #MenstrualHealth a reality for all. #16Days

I heard a very sobering yet comforting quote in sermon five years ago, which has kept me going in the valley moments. "We often overestimate what we can achieve in a year, but underestimate what we can achieve in ten." Four down, six to go... Kazi continues 👊🏿 🇰🇪♥️
