Sustained investment in health systems is essential for improving population wellbeing and driving national development, Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga has said.
Speaking during Africa Press Day 2026, held today in Nairobi under the theme “Health: What Is It Worth?”, Dr Oluga emphasised that health should be viewed not as a cost but as a strategic investment in economic growth and social equity.
The forum brought together policymakers, health experts, innovators and development partners from across Africa to examine the value of investing in health systems and strengthening healthcare delivery across the continent.
Discussions focused on strengthening resilient health systems, expanding access to quality care, advancing cancer services and leveraging digital health innovation. Stakeholders also underscored the need for early diagnosis, integrated care models and stronger public–private partnerships to improve health outcomes.
Dr Oluga reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening specialised medical services and accelerating progress towards Universal Health Coverage, positioning health as a key driver of sustainable development and national productivity.
