The tariffs don't make sense as economic policy because they aren't economic policy. They are a tool to undermine our democracy. A means to force every major company and industry in America to pledge loyalty to Trump in return for tariff relief.

I don't know what it means for a millionaire to get a $50,000 tax cut. I don't understand the difference between six and seven luxury cars. But I do know what it means for someone in my Hartford neighborhood to lose their Medicaid coverage. That's a life ruined.

Murphy: This is also a political tool for Trump. You can see what he’s doing with these universities and law firms—penalizing them and making them come to him to pledge loyalty. I think it’s likely the same thing could happen with the tariffs: each big company or industry will have to come to Trump to get tariff relief in exchange for political loyalty, in exchange for a commitment to buy Trump cryptocoin, or to make sure their workers don’t speak out against him. He’s trying to destroy democracy. And the reason these tariffs may not make any sense when you look at the design is because maybe they’re not really economic or trade policy. Maybe they’re actually political policy. So once again, it’s an absolute disaster for regular working people—and maybe a big threat to our democracy.

The US is looking more and more like a black hole that will swallow the Earth, beam itself to Mars and disappear without a bang. @elonmusk

I dont know if there is a kill switch in the F35’s or not. We obviously can not take your word for it. As one of the decision makers behind Denmark’s purchase of F35’s, I regret it. The USA can certainly disable the planes by simple stopping the supply of spare parts. They want to strengthen Russia and weaken Europa and are showing that they are willing to do tremendous damage to peaceful and loyal allies like Canada just because they insist on existing as a country. I can easily imagine a situation where the USA will demand Greenland from Denmark and will threaten to deactivate our weapons and let Russia attack us when we refuse (which we will even in that situation). Therefore, buying American weapons is a security risk that we can not run. We will make enormous investments in air defence, fighter jets, artillery and other weapons in the coming years, and we must avoid American weapons if at all possible. I encourage our allies and friends to do the same.

‘There is no kill switch’—The F-35 'kill switch' rumor has been debunked. “After weeks of speculation, the Pentagon formally denies having the ability to remotely disable @LockheedMartin’s F-35 fighter jets.”

The claim only applies if the executive acts within its legitimate powers. If the executive exceeds its constitutional powers (e.g. unlawful military action or prosecutorial misconduct), judicial intervention may be permissible to uphold the rule of law.
JD Vance@JDVance

If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be illegal. If a judge tried to command the attorney general in how to use her discretion as a prosecutor, that's also illegal. Judges aren't allowed to control the executive's legitimate power.

As someone who supposedly works for the government now, will @elonmusk submit to basic financial disclosure and conflict of interest rules and norms? As of now, Musk hasn’t done this in his new role, of course.

It's been a while since I've published anything out in the wild. I'm ending that today. I saw this tweet form @chuisochuisez & I thought it would be fun to do it as a standalone app (while learning a bit of NextJS 13 in the process) 🚀 Launching V1--> transcriptextractor.com

¿Veis factible un script que funcione en Google Sheets para extraer las transcripciones de listas de URLs de Youtube? Eliminando marcas de tiempo y unificando el contenido, que quede algo como la segunda imagen? Alguie se anima? Tengo ideas perversas xD
