This time last year I was part of a diaspora community initiative to build local medical centres to reduce infant mortality and inspect a new road built by the diaspora. We traveled across 12 villages: Toon, Qool Caday, Salaxley, Ina Guuxa, Baha Dhamal, Libaax Qawdhama, Hiiglada, Bali Mataan etc.

NEW: Turkish F-16 fighter jets that carried out operations targeting areas where terrorist groups are present have landed at Mogadishu’s airport. Turkish forces are providing aerial support to the Somali National Army in its ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.

Somalia can't help making scam headlines. Now the Somali National Disaster Management Agency "finds itself at the center of serious allegations of corruption and a near-total absence of accountability" including China's $2 million! Anyone surprised? en.goobjoog.com/sodma-built-to…

@umutcagrisariii @IlyasAliHassan Your little project is imploding. If Hassan Shiekh is unseated Turkey is out. If he stays your still out as 90% of what’s left is ethier Alshabab or have cut ties with him. All that money and time wasted 😭

Growing Backlash Against Laftagareen: “The People Are Oppressed, We Will No Longer Remain Silent” Criticism against South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen is intensifying in Somalia’s South West region. Ambassador and former South West Senator @IlyasAliHassan openly criticized Laftagareen’s administration, emphasizing that “the people are under oppression” and will no longer remain silent. Ilyas Ali Hassan recalled that Laftagareen initially came to power with the support of the federal government and local communities, and that the extension of his term was also accepted. “However, today we have reached a point where the people are being oppressed. Our rights are being taken away,” he said.

The @EU_in_Somalia is following the escalating situation in Southwest State with concern. Constructive dialogue is critical at this point; all mediation efforts are welcome and should be given a chance.

The misleading statement issued by the embattled administration of Abdiaziz Laftagareen attempts to portray a local political crisis of his own making as a looming national catastrophe. This narrative is distorted and diverts attention from the real grievances of the Digil and Mirifle people who oppose him. In reality, the tensions in Southwest State stem from Laftagareen’s long-spanning abuse of power and growing opposition among Digil and Mirifle communities to hus rule who argue that his administration’s mandate has long expired. Claims that the federal government under Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is carrying out a “clan-based assault” distort the situation and serve only to distract from his illegitimate rule and evade accountability. Those opposing him in Hudur. Buurhaba, Waajid and other areas are Digil and Mirifle people Laftagareen has gone as far as banning Digil and Mirifle individuals with opposing political views from entering parts of Southwest State, effectively curtailing freedom of expression, political participation, and the right to organize. The statement’s reference to foreign actors such as Egypt appears designed to internationalize the dispute and provoke wider regional sensitivities, particularly with Ethiopia, rather than address the crisis his administration has created. Recent unprovoked actions, including the attack on Hassan Eelaay in Baidoa, where most of his security personnel were reportedly killed and his home looted, further demonstrate the internal political nature of this conflict. What Southwest State needs is not alarmist narratives built on recycled tribal tropes, but the departure of Laftagareen and the emergence of an inclusive and legitimate system of governance. @US2SOMALIA @UKinSomalia @IGADsecretariat @EU_in_Somalia @UNTMIS_
