The 9th Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu Ramadan Lecture for Women was held as a hybrid event, connecting participants online while our women in Kebbi State gathered physically to reflect, learn, and grow together. Under the theme “Surviving and Thriving: A Muslima’s Guide to Hard Times,” the day was filled with powerful reminders, heartfelt discussions, and inspiring voices that encouraged women to remain steadfast in faith during life’s challenges. The most important highlight of the day was the beautiful reminder from the Qur’an that “Indeed, with hardship comes ease” (Qur’an 94:5–6)—a message that resonated deeply with everyone present. It was a moment of sisterhood, reflection, and renewed faith, reminding us that no matter the trials we face, patience, remembrance of Allah, and strong community will always guide us through. 🤍✨

Our third English speaker, Sister @naimabrobert, left us with a powerful reflection: “Where did the time go?” As Ramadan passes so quickly, her message reminded us how easily days, months, and even years slip by if we are not mindful. Relating it to the theme of the lecture, she encouraged us to reflect on how we use our time, especially in moments of hardship and in blessed seasons like Ramadan. Ramadan is not just a period of fasting; it is an opportunity to pause, realign our hearts, and grow spiritually. Her reminder was clear: time is a trust from Allah, and how we spend it shapes who we become. May we learn to use our time wisely, strengthen our faith, and leave Ramadan better than we found it. 🤍✨

Through the power of spoken word, Maryam Bukar Hassan (@alhanislam) graced our 9th Ramadan Lecture with a moving performance that reflected deeply on Ramadan, hardship, and faith. Her voice reminded us that even in the most difficult moments, Ramadan teaches us resilience, patience, and trust in Allah’s wisdom. With every word, she beautifully captured the struggles many face and the strength that faith brings in overcoming them. A powerful reminder that through patience, prayer, and reflection, hardship can become a path to spiritual growth and hope. 🌙🤍

As shared in the reflections of Umar Gana, when we hold firmly to remembrance and patience, we begin to see Allah’s wisdom even in difficult moments. Because truly, Allah has promised: “For indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Qur’an 94:5–6). The remembrance of Allah (dhikr) is one of the greatest sources of peace for the heart. In moments of hardship, uncertainty, or even success, keeping our tongues and hearts engaged in remembering Allah strengthens our faith and brings tranquility to the soul. As Allah says in the Qur’an: “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”(Qur’an 13:28). And He also reminds us: “So remember Me; I will remember you.” (Qur’an 2:152). Dhikr reconnects us to our purpose, calms our worries, and reminds us that we are never alone. #RamadanDay18

In her heartfelt reminder, @juwairiyyausmansulaiman our second hausa speaker advised us to stay away from following ritualists or seeking unlawful means in the name of overcoming trials and hardship. No matter the difficulties we face, our help should always come from Allah alone. She also reminded parents of the importance of drawing their children closer, even when they make mistakes. Instead of pushing them away because of their wrong actions, we should guide them with patience, love, and understanding. Our children need our presence, our guidance, and our prayers so they can find the right path. True strength lies in faith, patience, and keeping our families united through every trial. 🤍✨

Hardship is not the end of the road; it is often the beginning of growth. As Umar Gana our second english speaker reminded us, the successful among us are not those who live without trials, but those who remain patient through them. He also said Hardship adds depth to our journey and gives us the opportunity to practice sabr. Instead of seeing difficulties as something meant to break us, we should see them as opportunities to grow closer to Allah and strengthen our faith. #drzsbramadanlecture #RamadanDay18

Our first English session speaker, Maryam Lemu, reflected on how people respond to hardship. Using the analogy of oranges and lemons, she explained that when life “squeezes” us through trials, what comes out reflects what is already within us. In the same way, the challenges we face often reveal our character, faith, and patience. She related this to the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who faced immense trials and hardships yet responded with patience, mercy, and trust in Allah, never allowing anger or resentment to define his response. A reminder that in times of difficulty, our reactions should reflect the values of faith, patience, and reliance on Allah. #KaratunRamadanNaMata #ZSBramadanLecture #Ramadan1446AH #MuslimahVoices

During the Q&A session, participants raised several thoughtful questions for our first speaker, @JabirSaniMaihul. In response to a question about judging a person’s spiritual standing based on wealth or hardship, he explained that all wealth comes from Allah, and it is not correct to measure someone’s faith or closeness to Allah by their material condition. On the question of whether longer or shorter Taraweeh/Tahajjud prayers carry different rewards, he noted that generally the longer the prayer and devotion, the greater the reward. He also addressed a commonly asked question regarding whether a husband must grant divorce if his wife asks for it three times, clarifying that divorce is not the responsibility of the woman, and the husband is not obliged to divorce her simply because she requested it.

Our first speaker reminded us of a powerful truth as the session continues. Reflecting on the theme, he spoke about how, during moments of hardship, we often feel isolated and unsure of how to navigate the situation. Yet, he reminded us that these moments are also opportunities to draw closer to Allah and find strength through faith and reflection. As Allah reminds us in the Qur’an: إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Qur’an 94:6). A timely reminder that even in difficulty, relief and ease are part of Allah’s promise. #KaratunRamadanNaMata #ZSBramadanLecture #Ramadan1446AH #MuslimahVoices
