Wishing a happy 100th birthday to Reverend Bill Greason, the oldest living Negro Leaguer.
Greason was a lifelong friend of Willie Mays, his teammate on the 1948 Birmingham Black Barons. In 1954 he became the first Black pitcher in St. Louis Cardinals history.
A World War II and Korean War veteran, Greason proudly delivered the first pitch before the #MLBatRickwood game this past June.

Our late chairman and founder, the legendary Buck O’Neil always liked to say he was “right on time.”
The same could be said about Thursday’s announcement by the @MLB - @MLBPA @Baseball_YDF of a $2 million grant to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
“You have to remember this museum started in a one-room office in 1990,” said @nlbmprez.

On May 29th, Major League Baseball integrated the statistics of more than 2,300 Negro Leagues ballplayers into the official Major League record, allowing some of the game’s best players to take their rightful place among all-time record holders.
MLB will further honor these Negro Leagues legends when the @Cardinals take on the @SFGiants at Rickwood Field on June 20 at 7 pm ET on @MLBONFOX.

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hall of Famer Willie Mays, one of the most exciting all-around players in the history of our sport.
Mays was a two-time MVP, 24-time All-Star, 12-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In commemoration of "The Catch" as perhaps the most famous play in the history of the Fall Classic, the World Series MVP Award was named in his honor in 2017.
Mays was 93 years old.
