My head has been all over the place since yesterday.
This retrospective decision by CAF leaves a lot to be desired.
For me, Alarticles 82–84 leave no room for interpretation: forfeiture is the consequence when a team fails to show up for a game, refuses to play the game, or walks off the pitch for good and leaves the ground - emphasis on *ground*
But that's not what happened in the final v Morocco l.
The referee called Senegal back.
The match resumed.
The match ended when the referee blew the FT whistle.
Whatever ground existed for forfeiture was gone the moment play restarted - the officials themselves closed that door.
Dragging Article 84 back into the conversation after the fact isn't an application of the rules - It's a rewriting of them.
And those are two very different things.
The days ahead will be crazy..
