Me (on right) arguing with metal elitists over what bands would be appealing to normies but they mention bands that I know but didn't come to my mind (lowkey GOATed bands)

@killa4real__ Just wait until you listen to Heartbreaker. That shit was dubstep before dubstep. MJ was truly ahead of his time. If he was still alive he'd be on some other genre that would be unappealing even to GenA.

@pmamtraveller When I was smoking cigarettes in high school I held them between my middle and ring fingers. Simpler times. I was also a lot less insane back then.

Nah, you can preserve stuff that you're not a fan of. I still have some digital copies of albums I'm not a fan of. Elitism in metal is simply what hipsters were in early to mid-10s. "Two guys with a crazy dream starting a burger joint", deliberately extremely niche music, gatekeeping the clothing and way of life... The modern metal elitist is a hipster that changed the burger joint for a band that makes a single two to three-track demo and nothing else ever again before disbanding.

@norazseason This is why you should give a try to the local scene. For the price of a mainstream band ticket you can get a ticket to the small club and get absolutely shitfaced in the process.

1: Everybody likes Limp Dipstick only ironically. Nobody thinks they are actually good, everybody who enjoys their music does so because the band embraced the cringe. 2: It's Methallica. They might enjoy Megameth as well. Sure, I'm not saying that a normie won't instantly love a niche band, but what I'm saying is that a normie jumping directly into slam is an extremely rare occurence.

@RandyKaNewman @p3nnqu1nn "Nobody fucking likes your 200 monthly listeners band" How do you know if someone who knows nothing about Metal might actually like that band and not the same lame bands like Limp Dickshit or Mainstreamtallica with 200% more normies who ruin everything

There is a distinction between quality control and gatekeeping the hordes of normies (that tend to destroy whatever they touch and absolutely suck the soul out of any fandom). What many people like you do is turn people away from even being interested in basic-ass mainstream metal. Nobody fucking likes your 200 monthly listeners band that bots three quarters of their listeners on Spotify, with the last quarter being people listening to their only demo in existence once and never again. Besides, the only twinkcore I openly listen to is Robbie Williams.

@RandyKaNewman @p3nnqu1nn Elitism keeps Metal alive, all we need are the kinds of recommendations the other friend gave, not your Twinkcore.

The reason why I picked these bands specifically is the cultural relevance of their sound, or rather, the familiarity of their sound. All of the albums I've recommended are overproduced and clean music with simple writing in the metal form. Arguably, the only really sonically dirty record on that list is Vol.3 because it sounds like it was recorded in a fucking closet with a generic USB microphone, not like it was produced in a real studio with Rick Rubin (and I know that because I have the CD version and it doesn't sound a bit fucking different from the streamed version with technically lower bitrate / quality). The truth is, the modern listener doesn't care about the quality of the mastering, lyrics, the mix or the sound. I've seen the shit normies enjoy, and it's truly baffling. All the normies want is familiarity. I've noticed this in numerous cases - many normies enjoy listening to what is basically an iteration of the same song feeling, NOT what is an entirely different genre. They rarely venture out of their chosen style, even if it is mainstream music. That's why I picked these incredibly mainstream metal albums - at least to me they are familiar to what I believe normies like while still offering some sort of variety of sound. Sure, we can recommend them Kreator, Kanonenfieber, Beherit, King Diamond / Mercyful Fate or even fucking Judas Priest, but the truth is - their sound is not even remotely related to modern mainstream normie music.

@RandyKaNewman @demotxcs @PierreGillesMor @p3nnqu1nn Maiden, Sabbath, Ozzy, Dio, most European power metal like Hammerfall, Windrose or Powerwolf, symphonic stuff like nightwish and epica. actually good thrash bands like Kreator and testament. It's not rocket science to find the big bands in most subgenres

@tonyrigatonee Straight whisky already tastes good, no need to be doing all that bullshit to make it better. Simple whisky cocktail, sure, but not this bullshit. I view these people the same way I see coffee snobs, matcha drinkers and metal elitists.

Those are intermediate level albums. If you want something light on the heaviness and complexity but still metal, try this: System of a Down - Toxicity Metallica - St. Anger (the fan remake version not the official one) Deafheaven - Sunbather Slipknot - Vol.3: The Subliminal Verses Deftones - White Pony (or private music) Ghost - Meliora (it's a mix of rock and metal) AND REMEMBER: Metal is a journey. I didn't immediately jump into black metal / DSBM or goregrind, it was a journey that I started at Ghost. In time, you will surely get why we love metal ❤️ A good advice is to keep out of metal forums. Lots of elitism there.
