Day 2 of my June 2024 Route 66 trip. A walk around the quiet streets of downtown Atlanta, Illinois was in order before I left to head south on Route 66.
Afternoon of Day 2 of my June 2024 Route 66 trip, started with a visit to Atlanta, Illinois to see the new Texaco Man Giant at the new American Giants Museum. It's a great addition to the little town.
Day 2 of my June 2024 Route 66 trip, I stopped for a maple ice-cream at Funks Grove, stopped to see the new mural in Downtown McLean, Illinois and then stopped for coffee at another one of my favorite restaurants on Route 66, the Dixie Family Restaurant at the Dixie Truck Stop.
Now that I'm back home from my June Route 66 trip, I finally have time to post some pictures. These are from Day 2 in Illinois. After breakfast I took time to check out Lexington, stopped for pictures of the Fairbury Speedway cars in Towanda, and then enjoyed stops in Normal.
Heading back north towards Dwight, Illinois I finally found the old barn with the old Merimec Caverns advertisement on the side. I've been unable to find it until this trip. The new Route 66 signs pointing a turn onto the old section of Rt 66 helped. It's way back in the back 40.
Had to hurry down to the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum Gift Shop in Pontiac, Illinois to try to get them to carry my new series of books, "KICKS, Your Travel Guide to Route 66". You can follow the rest of my trip at #Kicks, Your Travel Guide to Route 66 @Kicks66Guide
