There are 3 types of AI, most people only know about one of them. Here's the full picture 1. Narrow AI → The AI you already use every day This is the most common type of AI in existence right now. It's called "narrow" because it's designed to do one specific thing extremely well and nothing else. Your Spotify recommendations? Narrow AI. Google Translate? Narrow AI. The facial recognition that unlocks your phone? Narrow AI. ChatGPT? Also Narrow AI it's very good at generating text, but it can't do your laundry. Almost every AI tool you've ever used falls into this category, it's powerful, it's useful, and it's already deeply embedded in daily life across Africa, even if most people don't realize it. 2. General AI → The AI we're building toward General AI doesn't exist yet, not fully. It refers to an AI that can think, learn, and apply intelligence across any task the way a human can, not just one thing. Everything. Imagine an AI that could switch seamlessly from writing code, to diagnosing a medical condition, to negotiating a business deal, to learning a new language, all without being specifically trained for each task. We're not there yet, but the race to build it is the biggest technological competition in human history right now. 3. Super AI → The future nobody fully agrees on Super AI goes beyond human intelligence in every way, creativity, problem solving, emotional intelligence, everything. It's still theoretical but it's the reason some of the smartest people in the world are having very serious conversations about AI safety right now. So where does Action Model fit? AI isn't magic, it isn't a robot, it isn't the terminator either. So what exactly is AI? Let's talk about it Think about the last time you got a recommendation on Netflix. Something you actually wanted to watch, not something random, not something generic, but almost like it knew you. That's AI. Think about the time Google Maps rerouted you automatically because of traffic ahead, that's AI. Think about the spam filter that catches dodgy or suspicious emails before they hit your inbox, also AI. AI → Artificial Intelligence, is simply technology that can learn from information and use what it learned to make decisions, predictions, or take actions. It's not thinking the way humans think, it's not conscious, it's not alive. It's a system that gets very good at specific tasks by processing enormous amounts of data and finding patterns in it. Let's make it in the simplest way to understand it: A child learns that fire is hot by touching it once, yeah? They never do it again. AI learns the same way too, except instead of one experience, it processes millions of examples to figure out what to do in any given situation. That's it, that's AI at its core.
