It was not until 1902 that the first African American played basketball in an organized white league. Harry "Bucky" Lew became the first Black to play in a professional basketball game when he played for Lowell (vs. Marlboro) of the New England Basketball League in 1902.#BHM

Don Chaney is accustomed to breaking barriers in basketball. Chaney played for the University of Houston and legendary coach Guy V. Lewis. He joined the program in 1964, along with Elvin Hayes became the first two black athletes to play basketball for the Cougars.

Janice Bryant Howroyd is one of the most successful businesspeople—of any race or gender—in America today. Her firm, the ActOne Group, was the first Black female-led company to bring in more than $1 billion in annual revenue. #BlackHistoryMonth

Barack Obama - In 1988, he went to Harvard Law School, where he attracted national attention as the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. In 1992, Obama married Michelle Robinson, a lawyer who had also excelled at Harvard Law. #BlackHistoryMonth

Arthur Gaston established the Citizens Savings and Loan Association, the A.G. Gaston Construction Co., and CF Bancshares, a financial institution. Gaston was one of the richest African-American men in the United States throughout the 1960s.
