@DecolonialMarx By blue collar they probably mean a unionized job or a contractor and either way they likely make about $30-40/hr I organized with some UAW ppl once and was surprised to learn they make almost 6 figures if not more

Nah cause hair metal dudes only did that to get girls and they said as much. They were pretty well known for their violence against women and each other. Grunge whatever its other values tended to not depict women as objects. Nirvana wore dresses at some point.

i'm sure someone has put this take out there but couldn't one argue (not me, but someone) that hair metal encouraged and enabled lots of playful gender nonconformity and that grunge was a reactionary heteronormative backlash (all those flannels and combat boots! so butch!)

Fascinating how one of the primary vectors of attack against Gabriel Rockhill’s project is to yank it from the realm of historical and dialectical materialism and critique what it resolutely is not: an account of an elaborate and murky conspiracy led by the CIA. Instead, Rockhill’s work shows how the political economy of imperialism produces and reproduces certain currents of thought quite independently of any overt state control — even if that control played a significant role in constructing the cultural, economic, and political scaffolding that nurtures and rewards some ideas while sidelining others. At the end of the day, by ignoring the substance of Rockhill’s critique, these straw man positions end up being only marginally more sophisticated than attempts to dismiss an argument by labelling their author a ‘tankie’ or ‘conspiracy theorist’.
