A couple of German war correspondents arrived at the destroyed US convoy near Poteau, and staged a few 're-enactment' scenes with the soldiers for propaganda purposes. These images were captured by American troops, and have since been widely used in documentaries and books. #WW2

Today, 1899 - Field Marshal Lord Roberts is appointed British supreme commander in South Africa. This came after a series of failed campaigns against Boer Commandos in the South African War (Second Anglo-Boer War).

Today, 1946 - Steve Bantu Biko who would become a pioneer of the Black Consciousness(BC) philosophy was born in King William's Town, Eastern Cape. Biko’s unshaken stance against apartheid inspired the hope of freedom among millions in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa.
