I am still shaking from a soul-crushing Uber ride today in Dublin. It started with "Where are you from?" I said Iran, and the driver's face lit up as he thought he'd found a partner in his hate. He looked at me and said, "It must be crushing what the f***ing Israelis are doing to your country." ​The moment I pushed back, the moment I told him the truth, that I support Israel and want to see the regime in Iran fall, he erupted in pure rage. ​He began screaming about his uncle's high rank in the IRA, glorifying terror as a "success story" to justify the total erasure of Israel. To be trapped in a car with that level of brainwashed vitriol, being shamed and attacked for defending the Jewish people, is a burden I can't describe. ​Being Iranian is so incredibly taxing. You spend your life fighting the regime that destroyed your home, only to have strangers weaponise your identity to justify their antisemitism. To my Jewish friends: I see the hate you face. I will never stop standing with you, no matter how much it costs. 🇮🇱🦁☀️

Israel flunkies have adopted a set of inter-related, false claims regarding the origins of the term "Palestinian" during the twentieth century. These include: - Prior to 1948 the term "Palestinian" referred exclusively to Jews in Palestine; - The term was invented during the 1960s by the Soviet intelligence agency KGB; - The term was unveiled at the 1964 founding conference of the PLO by Yasir Arafat; - Arafat was an Egyptian KGB agent. As noted, each of these claims is patently and demonstrably false: - The British Mandatory documents below, for example, demonstrate how "Palestinian" was used prior to 1948. - Arafat was of course a Palestinian, born in Egypt, to a mother from Jerusalem and father from Gaza City. - Arafat did not attend the 1964 founding conference of the PLO where he is supposed to have invented everything Israel and its flunkies are determined to eradicate. - The Soviets did not attend the 1964 PLO founding conference either, on account of their suspicion and hostility to Palestinian nationalism. Etc... I address a number of the key fabrications and misconceptions about Soviet-Palestinian relations in the Substack post in the comments below.

To everyone who claims I'm "cherry picking" with these contemporaneous references to "Palestinian": I'm getting literally all these references from a single set of documents from the archives, the British records on Amin al-Husseini. (These are written by various British officials in the 1930s and 1940s.) Every few pages or so I see references to "Palestinians", "Palestinian," etc. It takes no effort at all to find this. Because it's what the British called Palestinians (again, the only change from today is that they also called them "Palestinian Arabs," and that Jews were included in the term "Palestinian," while they are excluded today). Hasbara is living on Mars, in claiming that 'Palestinan was invented by the KGB in the 1960s.'

More debunking of the ludicrous meme that 'Palestinians were invented in the 1960s.' On 31 August 1938, a senior official in the British Colonial Office reported on the proposal (from July 1938) of the Iraqi Foreign Minister for Palestine. These include all "Palestinians . . . enjoy[ing] equal civil and political rights without discrimination between race and creed" and "[t]he Palestinians" gradually "assum[ing] control of the administration" of Palestine from Great Britain. The main difference in how "Palestinian" was used in those days is that European-Jewish migrants and refugees were included in the concept of "Palestinians," the way non-ethnic Palestinians such as (e.g.) Armenian Palestinians are today. But the concept, as both an ethnic and national marker, certainly existed before Israel's founding and the Nakba.
