#ALERT: the Donald Trump led US administration has reportedly revoked visas of Somali government officials without warning. The US States Department has informed Somali Officials that they are immediately barred from entering the United States, a decision coming as Somalia teeters on the edge of political uncertainty ahead of the unclear May 15 elections. The affected visas include B1 business visas and B2 tourism or visitor visas. Senior government officials led by the Speaker of the House of the People Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe and those serving in the Offices of the President and Prime Minister, have been formally notified, putting their planned trips to the United States at serious risk. The move risks disrupting the travel plans of key officials, including representatives from the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank, who were set to attend the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington from April 13 to 18. This unprecedented action which is the first in nearly years, signals deep frustration within the US government over governance and political direction in Somalia. Concerns over credibility, transparency, and ongoing processes are reportedly at an all time high.

The most cited academic text on Somali nationalism was written by an Israeli Zionist. Let that sit for a moment. Saadia Touval was born in Zagreb, raised in British Mandatory Palestine, and trained as an operative of the Haganah, the armed Jewish settler paramilitary that violently expelled Palestinians from their land and became the foundation of the Israeli Defence Forces in 1948. He Hebraised his surname as his family built itself into the new Israeli state. By 1963 he was at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. That is where he wrote Somali Nationalism, the book that taught the Western world what Somalis wanted and whether they deserved it. The year matters. 1963 is the year the OAU was founded and colonial borders were locked in as permanent. It is also the height of Israel’s periphery alliance, a doctrine built on pulling non-Arab states into Israel’s orbit. Ethiopia was the centrepiece. A unified Somali state pressing against Ethiopian territory was a direct threat to everything that arrangement depended on. Touval knew this world intimately. He lived inside it. What he produced was not scholarship. It was a verdict. The Somali demand for unity, rooted in a people carved across five colonial territories without their consent, was recast as regional destabilisation. An irrational appetite. A problem for responsible states to contain. There are no Somali-language sources in the book. No oral tradition. No xeer. No record of what Somalis actually said about themselves. Only British and Italian colonial archives, dressed up in the language of political science and published under the Harvard Center for International Affairs, which gave the whole thing the stamp of neutral academic authority. Those conclusions then travelled. Diplomats inherited them. Policymakers built on them. Scholars cited them for decades without once asking who Touval was, where he was sitting, or whose interests his framing protected. The Somali case for unity was not defeated in argument. It was buried before the argument could begin, beneath a framework constructed by a man whose own state was founded on the principle that some people’s national ambitions are legitimate and others are simply a threat. This is what the weaponisation of knowledge actually looks like. Not propaganda. Credentialled, footnoted, institutionally backed analysis that does the work of power while passing itself off as objectivity. Every time Greater Somalia has been treated as a threat rather than a cause. Every time Somali irredentism has been called expansionism rather than justice. You are living inside the world Touval helped construct. The question is whether we are ready to take it apart.

HSM is the best president in Somalia’s Third Republic so far. • Bro made his own constitution. • Redesigned the whole federal structure. • Made sure they don’t know his next move. • He said beggars can’t be choosers (referring to states that depend heavily on him). • Isolated PL. • Postponed the war against JL to clear the mess in Banaadir and the weak regions around him. HSM’s first real test will be 14 April, when the MPs’ term expires.

@HalganDahir @supremeace2000 Even if I agree with you for the argument’s sake, HSM of 2012 isn’t the same as HSM of today. HSM 2.0 believes he is the only savior and sees a problem that only he himself can fix, aka Guulwade HSM.

Reports coming out of Galmudug indicate that Ahmed Abdi Kariye QoorQoor is set to drop out of the Galmudug race, in talks with Villa Somalia over an exit deal. After Laftagareen, lessons were learned.
