Is shrew too difficult a word to understand, or would you like more rice ball -> jelly donuts?

For those of you defending this localisation: 1. This is one example of many. 2. We're not asking for 1:1 tl, but this word is not like say, itadakimasu, which doesn't have an equivalent English tl. 3. If you haven't noticed, the characters here are not native English speakers.

@FiguraObra17816 @gomanga @jupy314 There was a "bombastic side-eye" in Guardian, a book written in 2012. Another translator used Latin terms like Rex Spiritus and Urbs Caelestia in Three Hundred Years of Longing, a xianxia novel.

@LinnsManga @sd_and_anime @gomanga @jupy314 Exactly! Worse is, the original wasn’t even a slang. It used 泼妇 which could be translated to "shrew" and it is an apt term. Why did they go with Karen?

@Ravens_andcrows @sd_and_anime @gomanga @jupy314 I have to agree with the you, there’s a lot of slang in it that feels out of place and ruined the immersion. Even if the original has slang it could’ve been handled better so it won’t be dated the second it comes out.

@sd_and_anime @gomanga @jupy314 Yep! In the first volume. The translation isn't bad, but the usage of American concept meme feels really out of place. And that too in a book set in China, written 10 years ago.

@gomanga @jupy314 The same translator used "Karens" in Sa Ye, so I wonder what other "intentional" choices have been made in Little Mushroom as well.

@jupy314 Hello again! After further internal review, there is no mistake: the spellings “Anzhe” and “An Ze” in our edition are intentional. Sorry for earlier confusion on this.

@Rosmeihey Using Global Examination for comparison doesn’t seem trustworthy either, considering the removal of forms of address like "ge" there.

@Rosmeihey "...we found that her name usage aligns with readers’ expectations". You can clearly see that it doesn't. Besides that, if full names are used in the original text, then full names should be used in the translation. Truly disappointing.

@bibidibobidifku @starlit_radiant @sapphiberry 1. You aren't forced to buy Rosmei editions either. It's a local license. Their official language just happened to be English. 2. I ship to a country with €70 shipping, then from there shipped to mine. I just think it's a double standard especially-

i know capitalism is absolutely destructive for art but seeing publishers completely butcher translations, refuse to listen to reader feedback and make any changes, and insist upon their decisions is particularly upsetting when ur essentially at their mercy for said translation
