@Batenswytch There was a bunch of Amish near where I grew up (and some in a branch of my family tree, too!) They make quality things.

@Ravensfell Oh yeah, their big farm auction is the 28th. Well worth the trip - and I think spring is when they bring out the quilts. I couldn't dream of affording one, but they're STUNNING to look at. The work they put into them is astonishing. I think one went for 5500.00 last year.

Btw: My pomegranate tree/shrub suffered the hardest hit. All the tiny leaves are crispy brown except a very few.
Fingers crossed it bounces back.

Watching Raven (my black GSD) play with nearly 14 year old Angus (the Australian Shepherd) is hilarious. She just loves him and seems to know she has to be gentle with him b/c he's an elderly gentleman. And Angus gets so hyper when they play. It makes me smile. But he does wear out quickly. And Raven senses that, too, then leaves him be so he can rest.
Anyway, I'm quite tired tonight. Calling it early this evening.. will watch some TWD, but prob fall asleep early (I hope.)

Raven at 7.5 months old. She was such a velociraptor 😂 Still hates the mower & any mechanical sounds really. Have to put her on zipline when I mow & weed eat so she (and I) don’t get hurt.

All I ever wanted was a nice piece of remote property.. a place where I couldn't look into my neighbor's windows + a small cabin. Oh, and where I could garden, have bonfires, shoot in my backyard, and have dogs + some other critters.
Soon, my fields will burst with native plants & flowers, many of them medicinal. It's already about that time for the occasional bonfire.
The stuff you want is on the the other side of hard work. 🫶🏼

@Ravensfell Awesome news! I'll be soaking the nectarine trees down good tomorrow and setting them out Saturday.
Hope to get to Amishville and pick up a couple more mulberry trees at some point too.

@Batenswytch Indeed. Btw, my son texted. He's picked up a Santa Rosa plum tree and an elderberry bush. Psyched! Gonna be in the 90s this weekend, so I'll give them a good long drink before digging their homes.

So many things, actually. But I highly recommend books. Books to reference if the Internets go down. Plus, you can hand them down to the next generation. Also, don't forget multiple sets of scissors, can openers, zip ties, and plan your first aid kit to encompass triple what you'd expect.

Maybe we should be more willing to share the worst parts of having livestock, poultry, gardens, and fruit trees as well as the most beautiful, joyful parts, so those considering that path will know it's not all pretty pictures?

Did an "emergency" C-section on a goat last night. Only one leg coming thru, and I could feel birth canal was too small. Had to put her down first. Kid was way too big. The kid was delivered dead. HUGE. Snow white, blue eyes. Would've been a handsome fella. Experience gained.

@Batenswytch I do my own, when I even bother these days. Living how I do, it's often not worth it, even during the cooler months. But yes on the other stuff. I got some great tallow w/ honey in it.. works great.

@Ravensfell Yeah, I don't even get the fake ones anymore. Keep the real ones short, do my own hot oil manicures to help with tearing my hands up working outside. It's literal blood, poop, dirt, sweat (Sometimes horse sweat) when one actually has farm animals and a garden. LOL
