They thought football was safe. World Cup news hit the group chat. Casualties were immediate. I need you to understand something. I am generally quite resistant to men as a concept. Exceptions: My son. BTS. Thomas, who is still on a 120-day trial and has not yet received his permanent emotional visa. But I do have this group chat with my old high school boys. All married.All very cool. All football people. It’s basically a support group for people who think emotions are offside. Basically, the only men I trust with match analysis and childhood blackmail. Yes, I’m a woman who loves football. Not every match. I’m not doing Strasbourg vs. Clermont on a Tuesday for fun. But France games? Always. My girlfriends don’t care about matches, so for big games it’s always them. We watched France win in 1998 together. We were young, loud and full of hope. Since then: tradition. Every World Cup, whenever we can, we meet and we watch the matches together, especially France’s games. Same people, same shouting, same snacks, slightly older knees. This morning, I open the chat. Christophe:“Guys. Did you see the World Cup news?” Victor:“What news? France squad? Did I dance on that bar like a woman with free healthcare and cartilage to spare? Unfortunately, yes. Did my friends scream like divorced women at a Mamma Mia convention? Yes. Did I wake up this morning feeling like somebody replaced my blood with expired glitter and regret? Also yes. Several body parts have resigned. My knees are filing a lawsuit. Basically my nervous system woke up inside a WWE cage match. And now I am negotiating with my mirror because my face has rearranged itself into a Picasso and I need to put it back in the correct order before lunch with THOMAS. Dear BTS, Thank you for another year. Birthdays don’t always feel the same after a while. Some years lose their sparkle. But since you entered my life, something changed. And today, this little May 7th feels different. I keep thinking about how strange it is that seven people can leave fingerprints on the way I live. Not in a loud, spectacular way. More like small lanterns left in ordinary places. A reason to look at tomorrow with a little less fear. Namjoon taught me that becoming is not something we finish. He makes growth feel patient. He reminds me that wisdom is not having all the answers but staying open enough to be changed by the next one. Jin taught me that responsibility does not have to kill joy.He taught me that humor can be a form of courage. That you can protect people, feed people, make them laugh and still quietly be the strongest person in the room. Yoongi gave me the courage of truth. He taught me that some days don’t need to be conquered. Some days only need to be named. “I’m not okay” can be a shelter not a defeat. He taught me that healing can be slow, private and still real. Hoseok taught me that light is work. He reminds me that sunshine is not the absence of storms. Sometimes sunshine is what you build after walking through them. Season 3 dropped…ARMYS!!!!!!!!!! This is not a drill. I repeat: THIS is not a DRILL. I need everyone to be calm in a way that I myself am absolutely failing to be because… HE TEXTED. HE ACTUALLY TEXTED. 😭😱 And his message started with: “Hello, it’s Thomas, your mother’s physio…” As if I might read it and go: Thomas… Thomas… hmm… which one is that again? The mysterious duke? The orthodontist? The banker? The violinist? The horse trainer? Sir, thank you so much for identifying yourself. I absolutely might have confused you with the flood of attractive men professionally involved in stroke rehab who text me daily, all fighting for my attention. 🙄 Sir! I knew!!! Then he said he was sorry for texting a little late but he wanted to listen to the album several times first. Several. Times! Do you understand? This man did revision before contacting me. And honestly? That alone was enough to make me gently place my forehead against a nearby surface. He said he’d had a slightly different image of BTS in his mind and that he hadn’t expected this kind of sound at all, something this strong. After listening properly, he admitted it was a really good album. Friends. Please understand that I received this like a raccoon hit by a chandelier. 😳 He said there wasn’t a track he disliked. BUT…. He also said he might need some context for No. 29 because, in his words, he could tell it probably meant something and he felt like he was missing something there.…. At that point I was no longer reading. I was floating two inches above my bed like a haunted Victorian lampshade. AND THEN. Then, because apparently this man was not finished ruining my nervous system, he said maybe I could recommend other BTS albums to him. Over a drink sometime. A DRINK.😱 A small innocent beverage, casually dropped into the conversation like it did not immediately send my blood pressure to the moon…. So yes. Thomas texted. Thomas listened. Thomas liked the album. Thomas had questions. Thomas suggested a drink. And now I may have to discuss Bangtan over drinks while trying not to behave like a lantern in high wind..😬 And that, dear ARMY, was this week’s episode of “How Is This Happening to Me?” starring me, my blood pressure doing parkour, my mother in full tiny Balkan empress mode playing Cupid in compression socks and one suspiciously charming physio.

Quarterly EA/Office Managers meeting yesterday. A room full of persons, coffee and 47 variations of:“Honestly, the real issue is…” followed by absolutely no solution. 🇫🇷 I arrived already grumbling (to stay culturally accurate).My office bestie was like: “Please don’t start. For once. Just be normal.” I said nothing because I was busy being offended. Big meeting room, a few lovely colleagues and a few where once per quarter is still too much. I sit next to my bestie and immediately start whisper-commentating like a chaotic student in the back row. HR Lady (clearing her throat):“Kris… could you maybe be a little… focused?” Me:“Yes, Captain 🫡” (fake military salute /zero credibility/no remorse) I try to behave. I try to focus. Martine and Sandrine, two legendary veterans of the old-school secretary era, launch their quarterly saga: “The Photocopiers Crisis.” (There is another one approximately ten steps away but apparently that is a crossfit session..) Martine: “It’s unbearable.” Sandrine nods like this is a UN crisis. Meanwhile I’m dissociating with Jimin in my head screaming : 🎶 “set me freeeeee” 🎶 At that exact moment HR goes: “Kris… do you have something to add about this point?” And I said: “Yes but not in a way that keeps my contract safe, so I’ll stay silent.” And then destiny happens.The super quiet colleague next to me tilts her phone. I glimpse the lockscreen. A HAND. A TATTOO. JK. I sit up like a meerkat. I whisper-shout:“OH MY GOD ARE YOU ARMY?!” She recoils. Blushes. Whispers:“yes.” I lower my voice by approximately 2%. “Me too, I’m ARMY!!” She goes:“Yes… I know.” Me:“…you do?” Her (still blushing):“I heard you make people presave Arirang…” ????????? So apparently I have a corporate reputation and it’s not “efficient” or “professional.” It’s:that BTS woman from admin…. So now I’m in her ear like a cartoon gremlin running on espresso:“Oh my GOD do you like the album?? What’s your favorite track? Did you see all the contents?” My bestie hisses:“omg stop, you’re scaring her” Me, deeply insulted:“I’m bonding.” HR clears her throat again, louder this time, like a warning siren: “Kris… can you concentrate?” I lift my head with offended innocence:“I am concentrating.” HR stares. The room stares. HR: “…What were we talking about?” Me, immediately: “Oh, Joelle said it’s not normal that the Chrome River training is in English and you said we’re a US firm so it makes sense and Marie said ‘but we’re in France so it’s unacceptable.’” Silence.Everyone looks at me like I just performed a miracle. Me, triumphant:“SEE? 100% FOCUS.” The meeting ends. No solutions were harmed in the making. +👇🏻

Me: yes sure. Of course your first love looked like Kim Taehyung. Very normal. Very realistic. 🙄 Then Mic Drop starts and I immediately go:“Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok…” My mom freezes. Looks at me.Looks at the TV. Looks back at me. “Wait,” she said. “Those are lyrics?” No, mother. Those are names. And from there, everything fell apart beautifully. 1/4
