The Litmus Test Never assume that all those, who say they are Christians, are born of the Spirit. There are many tares among the wheat, foolish virgins among the wise, and bad fish among the good. They need to be awakened before the Day of Judgment, and one of the best ways to do that is to take them through "The Good Test." Ask the person if he thinks that he is a good person. It's a powerful litmus test. If he thinks he is, do what Jesus did. Take him through the Ten Commandments, and don't be afraid to let him know that if he has lied or stolen or looked with lust, he's heading for Hell. Any fear that arises in his heart because you mention his standing before God will be nothing compared to the fear he will have when he does stand before Him in Judgment. There goes another minute. It Took 37 Years A Christian brother named LeeRoy Beatty memorized the entire Bible. It took him 37 years. He went to be with the Lord in 1998 at the age of 83. He used to say, "Jesus said, 'Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.' If you are not fishing, you are not following." He also said, "The Bible says, 'He that wins souls is wise.' What does that mean if you are not winning souls?" He would say, "Silence in not golden. It's yellow." He had many other pithy sayings. One was, "Don't miss Heaven. You never will forgive yourself if you do." Pithy though they were, his little sayings were based on sound doctrine. He knew his Bible. So, go fishing today. Be wise. Don't be yellow. Take courage through faith in God. Live to hear, "Well done, you good and faithful servant" and when you die, you will. There goes another minute. Gone forever. You Can Tell a Liar You can usually tell an unfaithful person (a liar) by what comes out of their mouth. They will often say, "I promise to have it to you by such and such a time." The key word is "promise." Liars usually have to promise because they know that their simple word isn't enough. Both Jesus and James address this. The Christian should never have to promise to do anything. If he simply says that he will do it, he will do it. His word is his bond. Psalm 15 should be inscribed on the walls of character for every man and woman of God. We can't afford not to keep our word. If we let an unsaved person down by not doing what we said, it kills our testimony. We must be blameless before a godless world if we want to have any credibility in what we preach. Do You Carry Tracts? You and I are in a fight for the souls of the lost. We are told to fight the good fight of faith. Are you armedfor battle? Do you always carry Gospel tracts? They are bullets in your gun. So don't leave home without them. The enemy wants to shoot you to pieces. Here's how to enter combat. Walk up to the enemy. Give him a warm greeting. Say, "Good morning. How are you?" That will disarm him. Then draw! Whip out a tract and ask, "Did you get one of these?" The purpose of the "bullet" is to get him to surrender to your will. Your desire is to speak to him about God, and the tract will quickly get you there. So, get yourself a good reputation as one who is quick on the draw. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Faith and Fear We are in a battle for the lost. The enemy seeks to intimidate you by the use of the weapon of fear. It is meant to paralyze you. Your weapon is faith. It is more powerful than fear. Faith overcomes fear. Your concern is that if you bring up the things of God with a stranger, he will think that you are strange. He will think that you are a religious weirdo. Here's how faith works. Because you have faith in God's Word, you know that if the stranger dies in his sins, he will go to Hell … forever. Love and concern for his eternal salvation will overcome your fear. Simply think of this realityhis worstcase scenario is the Lake of Fire; yours is that a stranger will think that you are strange. You Will Leave Everything The most important day of your life will the day of your death. Think about that. On that day, nothing else will matter except what you have done for God and where you are going. Your house, your car, your money, your sports will mean nothing on that day. You will be leaving time and entering into eternity. Meditate on that breathtaking moment. In the exhale of one breath, you will leave everything you love. Your wedding ring. Your spouse. Your loved ones. Your vehicle. Your money. Everything. Tonight, God could say to you, "This night your soul is required of you." Let such sobering thoughts consume you. Let them drive you to use your life for what matters, to reach out to the unsaved and make a big dent in this sinful world. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Never Despise the Law Hopefully, you understand why God gave us The Ten Commandments. They prepare us for the One who can save us from sin and death. The Law of God prepares the soil of the human heart so that it can receive the seed of the Gospel. It convinces us of the disease, so that we can appreciate the cure. J. C. Ryle said, "Never, never let us despise [the Law]. It is the symptom of an ignorant ministry, and unhealthy state of religion, when the Law is reckoned unimportant. The true Christian delights in God's Law." In speaking of the Christian's attitude to the Law, John Wesley said, "Yea, love and value it for the sake of Him from whom it came, and of Him to whom it leads. Let it be thy glory and joy, next to the cross of Christ. Declare its praise, and make it honorable before all men." There goes another minute. Gone forever.
