@tropotropotropo We talked it out tho- I think basically western teachers aren’t well versed enough in eastern styles to differentiate them as easily. Kind of like the cross race effect, so I think their brains just physically don’t understand anime art the same way people exposed to anime do
@tropotropotropo In art school I was considering dropping out when my teacher implied it was cultural appropriation to draw anime and told me to be more original in front of the class 😭 it wasn’t even a technical art studies class— I heard a similar sentiment from other students too
@Duwi_EXE@vareesza Oh my gosh I’m shaking wth 😭 Everyone truly did an AMAZING job djsbdjsbdkshdj— thank you so much for hosting the contest and for being an awesome streamer 🥹❤️
THE WINNERS HAVE BEEN SELECTED! 🔊
Congratulations to:
@RakugakiRebel on 1st
@/gezelvt.bsky.social on 2nd &
@vareesza on 3rd
Thank you all again for your participation! And thank you again to my amazing judges for taking time out of their day to carefully look over each piece~
@admrift@makio_jroses@lanjiujiu You can still see some artistic choices being made in the card art though (probably due to direction) Ho-Oh’s green neckline being higher up, its head and tail feathers more prominent, more angular claws- choices to make sure Ho-Oh is portrayed consistently from other refs
@admrift@makio_jroses@lanjiujiu Not sure how valid my take is but reusing assets is just a part of meeting deadlines and we have no clue what the artist was given as direction— with the artist assuming that this was Pokémon property, I find it understandable why such choices were made still very unfortunate tho
Following the issue with the Ho-Oh card, which was apparently copied from the original artist @lanjiujiu, the pair of immersive cards illustrated by SIE NANAHARA will be replaced. Since the new set is releasing in just a few hours and both immersive cards are involved, they will temporarily be replaced by placeholders. The final versions of the cards will be added as soon as they’re ready.
According to the official statement, it seems that there was a problem with the production materials: the illustrator was mistakenly provided with incorrect reference images, which were believed to be official. Because of this, it’s likely that NANAHARA did not intentionally copy the original art, but simply followed the references provided during production.
This whole situation is truly shocking and quite unbelievable. That said, the TCG Pocket team once again proves to be incredibly fast and professional in addressing any problem in the best possible way 👏
🖌️ARTIST NEEDED!
This will be used within the game itself, please see details below if this is up your alley. If you'd like to work with an otome game, or know of artists who do, please help us out!
