To understand the present, we need to visit the past. Nigeria neglected its most vulnerable group in 2025. According to @BudgITng 2025 Federal Government Approved Budget Analysis, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities received only ₦2.77 billion, with just ₦1.56 billion as capital expenditure. For 35 million Nigerians living with disabilities, that’s a shocking ₦43.34 per capita (per person), while the rest went to salaries and overheads. Meanwhile, the National Social Investment Office received 1.58 billion naira to purchase office furniture. #BudgITForWomen #IWD2026 #Getinvolved #Askquestions #BudgITForWomen #IWD2026

Seeing the exchange between @egi_nupe and @Wizarab10 and I was so speechless. I have been working at Kirikiri for Two months now and my advice is that whatever you do in this life, don't end up here. They're boys that will pledge everlasting loyalty to you if you're the reason they end up getting out of here... Maximum OR Medium. His behavior is not okay and we should not encourage it at all.. Shout-out to @egi_nupe for getting him out and helping with others... hopefully this doesn't shut the door to future representation of deserving inmates who might never be able to say thank you.

Diary of a Storyteller at Kirikiri✍️⛓️ ~Last week’s session was one of those moments you experience and quietly say to yourself, something is shifting here. ~Chess was no longer just a board game to them. It was becoming a CORRECTIONAL TOOL. By the second week, we could already see the transformation happening in real time. Chess was no longer just a board game to them. It was becoming a correction tool. You could see it in the way they spoke, the way they reasoned and in the way they analyzed life through the lens of the chessboard. Earlier, we had divided them into groups and asked each team to choose a name, not just any name, but a guiding principle that should shape their lives going forward. 📌Group One – Team Patience (Bishop) The Bishop, they said, sees the end of the board from the beginning. That means vision and foresight. ✍️Group Two – Team Dedication (Knight) They explained that the knight does not move in straight lines, yet it is strategic and intentional. They also mentioned that the most dedicated piece on the board is the king, because everything revolves around protecting him. 👸Group Three – Team Excellence (Queen) They made it clear that excellence is not one good act. It is not perfection. It is a daily commitment to do better. We are what we do repeatedly. Excellence thrives on attention to detail. It requires constant improvement. Listening to them, you could tell they were no longer just thinking about winning games. They were thinking about becoming better men. 💼Group Four – Team Hard Work (Pawn) They spoke about how hard work means refusing to repeat the same actions that led to failure in the past. The pawn moves slowly, one step at a time. It looks small and gentle. But when it captures, it does so with intention. 📌Group Five – Team Adaptability (Rook) They spoke about adjusting to situations while keeping your focus on the goal. They connected it directly to their prison experience. Life had changed for them, plans had shifted, but adaptability means you reposition yourself instead of giving up. 📌Group Six – Team Self-Control They spoke about managing emotions, choosing what is right over what is tempting, and understanding the dangers of impulsive decisions. They talked about building character, discipline and making better choices. And truly, it was a beautiful presentation. Some talents should not be wasted. We ended the session with random pairings, allowing them to play against one another and apply what they had learned. Next, we announced a Talent Hunt. They registered their names and the talents they would like to showcase. The excitement in the room was something else. You could see preparation already forming in their minds. Chess is doing more than teaching them how to move pieces. It is rewiring their psychology, building discipline and showing them that even a pawn can RISE. Move by move, decision by decision, change is happening and we are privileged to witness it in real time. @Chesstoschool @anchorheritage @thegiftofchess @Tunde_OD
