@CubicleApril since its dead, no harm in trying to use a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the glue and a spudger to pry it open to replace the battery. If you ruin it, you are not really worse off but if you succeed then YAY!

my five-year-old Kindle Oasis, which is still an amazing device, has really dropped off a cliff lately with regards to battery life lately. went to see if Amazon replaces batteries and it seems they don't do battery replacements on devices? like at all?

@patricknorton I use to go offroading with my dad all the time in a raised Pathfinder we use to call "The Beast", if you dont have at least one tire in the air or going up/down a 70 degree angle then you are just driving on a dirt road

Every time I write a Java version of Python code I'm blown away at how much faster it is. And how nice working concurrency is.

There you have it, ladies, gents and enbies. The next time someone asks me how to get their leadership on board with testing in production, there's your answer: "No, we aren't testing in production. We are practicing ✨proactive monitoring✨ with real datasets."
Kirill Pertsev@kpertsev

@mipsytipsy testing in production is called “proactive monitoring” and pretty well known for decades, especially in “non-pure-software” world, like interfaces to hardware (phone systems, video, satellites, robotics,…).

Life update: I’m pregnant with my first baby (a boy)! I’m currently 38 weeks along and due very soon. I’m 40 years old and lucky to have had an easy and healthy pregnancy. I continue to exercise 3-4 days a week and walk and e-bike to get around. When I left Twitter in March, I chose to not return to a full-time job right away and instead focus on pregnancy, travel, and remodeling a new home just a couple houses away from where I currently live in Duboce Triangle. My husband and I opted to conceive via IVF due to family medical history and my age. Always the enthusiastic beta tester, I froze my eggs at 37 years old via Lilia (YC W20) and received genetic screening via Orchid Health (@orchidinc). We tested our genetics as a couple and our embryos with both standard and polygenic embryo screening. I’m happy to join the conversation about having kids later in life and trying out experimental fertility solutions! Everyone is on their own life journey and mine made 💯 sense for me. As an older mom I’m happy that I can be fully present, as well as mentally and financially secure. As a nerd, I loved finding out how pregnancy works and how science has been improving fertility. For me, 2023 has been a wild adventure! While pregnant I swam with dolphins, toured around Japan, and partied (sober) at Burning Man. Now I’m looking forward to meeting my new baby soon!

As I expected, there's several good options! More specifically, I'm looking for: - Outdoor, battery-operated WiFi cameras - Nice app interface, alerts when stuff is happening - Cloud storage (I don't want a hard drive) - Doorbell camera using the same system would be ideal
