@ecutruin That sounds fair to me. Ai is different, in that its use requires forward disclosure by the user. If I'm using assets in my game, yes, I'll get a commercial license, but I would also need to forward declare any AI use. Perhaps I'll just have to explicitly state this, too.

You're not entitled to an artist's process of production, period. There's no onus on the artist to proactively disclose every tool that they use when creating a given work of art. If the use of AI tools bothers you, it's your responsibility to make it a part of the contract.

@ecutruin @Taffikatt @fiverr “Not proactively disclosing” that you use ai to make art is lying to people seeking art to be made

@TheGingerBill Would git submodules be a viable alternative? That is, for things that might be optional or required only for specific kinds of builds be in a separate repository linked as a submodule?

And your alternative is... require everyone who clones the repo to rebuild everything every time? Or just tell them tough luck? Great UX /s Re: Git LFS, GitHub's implementation was dodgy for many years and only recently became decent. We're adopting it now, but bandwidth costs are real. We blow through the free 10GB in about a day. It is still cheaper to do the embedding than rely on LFS. And if you could not guess, I don't love Git. Being on GitHub is a huge net positive though for discoverability as most people expect something to be on there, but Git just isn't a great fit for most programming projects, especially projects that are not decentralized to begin with. And quoting 562 MiB without comparing it to anything similar? That's not the gotcha you think it is. I know you don't like Odin, that's fine. But your complaints are puerile and you have not bothered to consider why things have been done way compared to the alternatives.

Why is Odin keeping binaries and libraries in their repo? One of them is 55 MiB in size. Many others exist.

Man I just want to live in a world where writers remember how to end ONE SINGLE THING!!! Please just end one freaking amazing show in a decent way. Why can't one good thing stay good till then end. JUST END IT IN A BASIC WAY I DON'T CARE!!! I just want to feel satisfied with one single show....

Notice how the minute long video is in 2x speed. I don’t understand why people think this is good design and can’t comprehend not wanting to tediously do this for every attempt at the boss. This is wasting time, it’s not fun. I’m sure FromSoft could put 100 enemies between DS2 fans and the boss fog wall and they’d justify it by saying this exact same thing. This is why people get annoyed with ya’ll you can’t just say “I love the game but I can see this being annoying” instead you justify very obvious design flaws.
biggie@biggieU_U

Notice how the runback is completely fine when you simply kill the enemies and use the environment to hide from archers? Shocking

@RazorSharpFang @KaiKai2492 Theres a covenant you can join that makes enemies more difficult and spawn infinitely. It's a built in easy mode. If you prove you can beat the enemies in the level enough but keep struggling with the boss then you will eventually no longer need to fight those enemies

@Unlimited_Her0 @KaiKai2492 ..... I wasn't very good at Dark Souls 2 and ended up doing this in literally every single region in turn before defeating the boss. I am not proud of how long it took me to clear the game. But I did clear the game. And I did have fun, actually. It was relaxing.

@KaiKai2492 I don't remember exactly, but someone mentioned that part of reducing frustration and allowing for greater difficulties is reducing that time-to-reattempt. I really liked how quick it is in Awaria - you die, two second animation, back into the game, off you go.

@RazorSharpFang Yes and I like what ER has done. Bosses are more difficult than anything in DS1/2 but graces/stakes of Marika are more properly placed. I’m happy to fight a hard boss 40 times learning their moves. But I don’t want to redo an area 30 times over again

@YoiteSuoh I'm fairly sure you don't have to kill the smelter demon - the bonfire is just beyond the smeltery, past a few more enemies and then on the left after the narrow bridge.

@RazorSharpFang @KaiKai2492 wait what bonfire, i've hit every bonfire in ds2 and I don't think I have ever seen, me or anyone else, have a bonfire before smelter demon in Iron Keep, this is always the runback people have to do.

@KaiKai2492 It is both a blessing and a curse. No infinite farming, but the way forward can be cleared. Still, I would prefer a bonfire before all boss fights as a matter of course. A brief respite before the challenge to help me mentally prepare myself (prepare to die edition).

🚨 Bring back free market capitalism! Australian success was built by free market capitalism. For most of our history, we were known around the world as a low taxing nation. That's how we so quickly built this civilisation. Today, local, state and federal taxes are ratcheting up. Over 50% of new annual wealth is taken by some tax ... which makes us a democratic socialist state. We are going backwards. In 1944 F A Hayek published, The Road to Serfdom. It is not a long book (PDF below). A good Sunday arvo read (start at page 39). Hayek warns the state claims to act in the interests of the public ... but as the state grows bigger it becomes entirely self-serving and must keep raising taxes to feed itself. This sours the economy and therefore the mood of the people ... until eventually they are at risk of turning to an authoritarian strongman to 'solve the crisis'. And that's when the bad stuff happens. Henry Hazlitt in the New York Times wrote about the The Road to Serfdom: "Friedrich A. Hayek has written one of the most important books of our generation. It restates for our time the issue between liberty and authority. It is an arresting call to all well-intentioned planners and socialists, to all those who are sincere democrats and liberals at heart, to stop, look and listen.’ The author is an internationally known economist. An Austrian by birth, he was director of the Austrian Institute for Economic Research and lecturer in economics at the University of Vienna during the years of the rise of fascism in Central Europe. He has lived in England since 1931 when he became Professor of Economic Science at the University of London, and is now a British citizen. Professor Hayek, with great power and rigour of reasoning, sounds a grim warning to Americans and Britons who look to the government to provide the way out of all our economic difficulties. He demonstrates that fascism and what the Germans correctly call National Socialism are the inevitable results of the increasing growth of state control and state power, of national ‘planning’ and of socialism. In a foreword to The Road to Serfdom John Chamberlain, book editor of Harper’s, writes: ‘This book is a warning cry in a time of hesitation. It says to us: Stop, look and listen. Its logic is incontestable, and it should have the widest possible audience.’ Australia can be back on track quickly via: A: Five year immigration pause. B: A radical pro-capitalist government that slashes taxes and halves the size of government. @LibertariansNSW @mises cdn.mises.org/Road%20to%20se…

@RazorSharpFang @MissMixi I've heard anecdotes from back when ScreenVic first started opening to applications that it's incredibly restrictive when it comes to the themes and gameplay of your games. It has to be as "safe" as possible. I'm hoping it's no longer the case today

Yeah I wasn't gonna say anything but this is just something the Americans don't understand, Grants are a huge blessing for small indie groups/developers in Aus. I understand everyone has done their dig on this game and I know not everything needs to be a hit for everyone and I haven't even "played" it but, this kind of stuff brings Aus works to life or makes it even possible for some to make their works a reality, which is why im always on the sceptical side when people say this game is an industry plant 😭 Even if this wasn't a banger, we still need to keep supporting Aussie made work 💔

Mixtape, the industry plant game accused of review inflation, received A$90,000 in public funding from VicScreen, an agency of the Victorian state government in Australia. Despite its short playtime and flop Steam player count, it has earned widespread high review scores including IGN’s 10/10, along with praise from many journalists and influencers.

@MissMixi @dazeystray My perspective is that it's highly unusual to be ABLE to get a perpetual license for music for a game. Rockstar could not get that for Grand Theft Auto. I'm not sure what it means, but that's an oddity in and of itself.

@dazeystray I keep getting comments about the "Perpetual licenses" of the music? since you have a lil more experience, is that really something to get mad at ?? from what I know the games music is like a key feature akjdhgs and as to why they refuse to put in a streamer mode 😰

we all agree mixtape is ass, but people getting upset that they got a grant to fund it pisses me off i used to work as a game dev in a studio here in aus, and let me tell you, almost our entire game/film/etc industry is government funded. it's awesome tbh. pick a better fight

@hotpowers Question for you if you don't mind - regarding softness versus hardness, is there a tradeoff in terms of toy durability? I have unfortunately torn quite a few of them in my use, and so far it seems the softer ones are more liable to tear with use.
