They said @tonyseba was crazy when he published Solar Trillions in 2010

Even if you’re worried about the disruption of labor, opposing AI and datacenters (and soon, robotics) is just super, super dumb. A prediction: we will eventually discover that “grassroots” opposition to AI and datacenters is being funded by America’s adversaries.

For 25 years Cuba’s grid barely changed. Fossil fuels stayed above 90%, blackouts worsened, and aging infrastructure kept breaking down. Now solar is suddenly bending upward. Not ideology. System stress. The early signs of forced #SWB decentralisation are appearing. 🇨🇺⚡#Solar Cuba may become one of the most important real-world case studies of the SWB (solar, wind & batteries) transition this decade. For decades, the island remained trapped in extreme fossil dependence, aging thermal plants, imported fuel vulnerability and chronic blackouts. The centralized system increasingly struggled under fuel shortages, infrastructure decay and mounting economic pressure. But something important is now beginning to appear in the data. This chart offers a small but revealing glimpse into what Tony Seba and RethinkX (@rethink_x) have been talking about for years. Not a completed transition, but the early stages of forced decentralisation. For most of the past 25 years, renewables in Cuba barely moved. Biomass and tiny hydro contributions kept the system hovering near ~4–7% renewables while fossil fuels remained dominant above 90%. Then suddenly, solar starts bending upward. And the critical part of this story is China. China is increasingly becoming the backbone of Cuba’s emerging energy transition: 👉 solar panels 👉 grid equipment 👉 batteries 👉 financing 👉 technical cooperation 👉 infrastructure support The annotation at the end of the chart matters. This is not organic market scaling yet. It is emergency deployment under systemic pressure. That matters enormously. Because SWB systems do not require the same kind of massive centralized buildout as legacy fossil or nuclear systems. They are modular, scalable and deploy fast, exactly what a strained economy like Cuba needs most. That’s the core of Seba’s framing: When large centralized systems become too fragile, too expensive and too dependent on imported fuel, modular technologies begin winning almost by default. Solar deploys faster. Batteries stabilise local grids. Microgrids reduce vulnerability. Fuel imports begin falling. Energy independence starts increasing. And unlike legacy infrastructure, SWB scales incrementally: 👉 rooftop by rooftop 👉 village by village 👉 microgrid by microgrid Cuba is not a renewable success story yet. Far from it. But it may become one of the clearest examples of how technological disruption and economic necessity can force system replacement faster than political systems themselves can adapt. The curve at the end of this chart may look small today. But disruption rarely announces itself with a bang. It starts quietly, with tiny bends most people dismiss right before the system begins to break open.

8% of Ethiopia's national fleet is now electronic. 90% of its' electricity is clean. EV owners now spend $4 today on charging vs $27 previously on fuel. Read the article: abcnews.com/Business/wireS…
