@MrsCMFrancis My wife watched this when our baby was born, so I caught snippets here and there. Not quite my speed, but lots of funny quips! Kirk’s my fav. I did watch the Nag Hammadi episode with her, but I was very disappointed they were mostly focused on relationships and not ancient texts.

Pretty much the only bummer in my marriage is that my husband never watched Gilmore Girls, and so he never gets my references, and there are such good ones for so many situations. So it’s just me quoting/laughing to myself while he looks at me confused

I've noticed the men I know who read fiction fall into 3 categories: - Guys who read military sci-fi, thrillers, or MAYBE LotR but little else. - Guys who don't read above middle-grade level fiction - Guys who are literally reading 600 page Russian novels in one week.

@EmmaRSotomayor L'Amour's Sackett series is a great place to start! It's a series of Westerns that follows several generations of a family from the time they first reach America up through the time of the Wild West

@NiennasPupil My grandparents had a copy at their ranch, and this was my very first introduction to Tolkien as a kid! I loved reading that book every time I visited them.

I've been hunting around for an affordable copy of this one for awhile and I finally got it!

Writers, do you have any creative hobbies outside of writing?

I read the Iliad last summer (Alexander Pope’s translation!) and loved it. Thinking I might have to snag the Odyssey from our library and see if I can get through it this summer! Probably won’t be able to see the movie in theaters, but maybe later this year we can watch it

@lolo_tho I forgot about a final paper for one of my anthropology classes until the night before it was due. Pulled an all nighter, with a couple TV breaks. 24 pages in total (granted, double spaced with some illustrations). Got a B! Y’all don’t need AI, you just need caffeine and grit

I was told by a 22yr old today that there was no way people were writing 10 page papers without AI.

I put a Star Wars book on hold at the library, hoping to finish Lord of the Rings and turn right around to start hammering through Star Wars novels again. But the library was much faster than I anticipated, I’m still only on the Two Towers!

Chatted with a guy who said he wants to homeschool his kids when they get older, but he was kind of nervous because he didn’t know many people who’d done it. Told him I was homeschooled, and he said that made him feel much better about it. Usually it’s the opposite response, ha!

@BMcGrewvy The last time we moved, my wife went into labor, and I had to frantically empty an entire living room full of boxes and chuck everything into the garage. Dunno if we’ve ever caught up from the chaos, ha! Never did find half that stuff again

Moving be like sitting in a living room piled with half-filled boxes and tarp bags while you focus very intently on bubble-wrapping your favorite spoonrest.

What would happen if I started my semester with a quiz like this one? Do you think students would rise to the occasion and want to reclaim education for higher ends?

@TiltAtGiants If there’s a flavor of writing I want to convey in a story, I absolutely will read authors with that flavor and try to emulate their prose/flow!

Writing influences are a strange thing to think about for me. I don't think I consciously try to emulate anyone. Do people consciously try to write similarly to others?

@buttonslives There are many denominations with faithful, Spirit-filled churches, but unfortunately plenty of bad churches lurk in every group as well. A good Bible believing church will definitely talk about good, evil, sin, and repentance when teaching about God. I lean toward Baptist/E Free

I think I’m going to give church another try. I need help understanding evil. Which kind of church talks about that?

We went and watched a stage play of The Importance of Being Earnest for a date last night. (My buddy from Bible study played Ernest). It was funny, if rather dry, but it was fun to see our local small town folks bring something like this to life!

@RVN1207 Legacy of the Force was some of my first exposure to the EU, and I loved it! Splinter of the Mind's Eye is...weird and trippy

I plan to finish The High Republic and start Legacy of the Force over the rest of this year. Also gonna read Splinter of the Mind’s Eye in a week or two. Been looking forward to those for a while Otherwise, I really want to get to Ascendancy, Coruscant Nights, and Hand of Thrawn
