@zoomer_crusader It's an identity question for Orthodoxy. If Christianity exists outside the body of Christ, which they obviously believe they are, then the religion doesn't make much sense.

@Abunajohn I wonder why this is such a huge issue over there in the US. We have tons of converts here in Europe and barely anyone thinks creating an Internet persona cosplaying as a master theologian is the first thing you should do after converting.

An example of theologian would be Fr. Peter Heers. There could be a few more in the US, but I don’t know them. I grew up in the US so my theology is a mix of Protestant and Catholic. I have an extensive Orthodox library. That still means I’m not qualified to teach Orthodoxy in a seminary or university. There are no real Orthodox theologians roaming the academic halls of X. X is filled with recent Orthodox converts pretending to be something they’re not.

If Jay Dyer couldn’t strawman Protestant theology, I doubt that he would have an audience. Absolutely no Calvinist believes in justification by assent to legal doctrines. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to us. This is monergistic, not synergistic, and it is the only way that we can stand before God. All Christians believe in sanctification, which is the Holy Spirit training us to hate our sinful desires and live in holiness. But the RC and EO blur justification and sanctification, leading them to believe that justification can be lost. When this happens, they need the made-up sacrament of penance to restore it. True repentance is not a ritual act to “satisfy” for sin. Penance is congruous merit, a parody of true repentance. Then purgatory had to be made up as a system to “pay off” temporal guilt. This leaves them bouncing between despair over obviously insufficient works and a false security through rituals. This all stems from the denial of justification by faith alone. If faith is insufficient, the merit of works is required. If the merit of works is required, justification can be lost. If justification can be lost, there is no assurance of salvation. Protestant doctrine is justification apart from the MERIT of works, not the existence of works. When we are justified by God, all of our sins, past present and future, are forgiven. Abraham was justified by being counted (imputed) righteous while still ungodly (Romans 4), not through progressive deification through works. In 2 Peter 1:4, “partakers of the divine nature” is better understood through union with Christ and the indwelling Spirit, not ontological deification. We are conformed to the likeness of Christ (Rom. 8:29), but we do not become like God by nature. If we participated in God’s essence or immanent being (ousia), the distinction between God and man would be abolished. A lot of this sacerdotalist confusion comes from the Latin Vulgate. The Latin word for justification is iustificare. This comes from the noun iustus, meaning justice or righteousness, and the verb facare, meaning to make. The Latin fathers understood this to mean that God MAKES unrighteous people righteous. One of Luther’s great insights from the Septuagint is that the Greek word dikaiosune doesn’t mean to make righteous, but rather to regard as righteous, to count as righteous, to declare as righteous. God is in this sense granting righteousness to those who don’t innately deserve it. This means that the righteousness by which we are saved is iustitia alienum, an alien righteousness; a righteousness that belongs properly to someone else. It’s a righteousness that is extra nos, outside of us. Luther said, “When I discovered that, I was born again of the Holy Ghost. And the doors of paradise swung open, and I walked through.” Iustificare (to justify) and iustitia (righteousness/justice) are the best Latin equivalents for dikaiosune, but they don’t adequately capture the full meaning. As Luther realized, dikaiosune righteousness is imputed (forensic, being declared righteous before God), whereas iustitia righteousness is imparted (making the ungodly righteous internally).

Can we get a Protestant on Tucker who actually represents us accurately without the strawmen? Jay Dyer (Orthodox) reduces the Calvinistic/Reformed view of salvation to "mere mental assent" — with the only change being God's disposition toward a person. That's not what any Protestant teaches, other than the hyper free-grace OSAS antinomian fringe. We teach justification by faith alone in Christ: a sinner goes from hating God to repenting and trusting Him. This is a real spiritual regeneration by God's grace alone, not just rubber-stamping an individual as "saved" and sending him on his way. Yes, we are legally declared righteous at the moment of faith: Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. But Scripture also teaches sanctification — not as a means to achieve salvation, but as a byproduct of becoming a new creation in Christ: 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Those whom God justifies in Christ, He will also glorify: Romans 8:30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

I am not a fan of the charismatic movement but Orthodoxy literally embraced Hesychasm in the 14th century which many scholars (e.g. Diarmaid MacCulloch, Petro B.T. Bilaniuk, etc) think was heavily influenced by Hindu practices.

🇹🇷 OFF TOPIC Our successful MMA fighter and reigning Oktagon champion, Kerim Engizek, was ABSOLUTELY ROBBED and all of Europe witnessed it. 🇵🇱 In his fight against Polish fighter Krzysztof Jotko, Kerim was deducted a point for an alleged low blow that clearly wasn’t one. The strike landed on Jotko’s stomach, not his groin, yet the referee still took a point away. That deduction ultimately cost Kerim the fight and led to a highly controversial and, in many people’s view, unjust defeat. At the time of the incident, Jotko had been taking significant damage, and many believe he used the opportunity to recover by acting as if he had been hit below the belt. Following the decision, Kerim protested the result, and tensions escalated after the fight, leading to another confrontation between both camps. Turks unfortunately face this disadvantage a lot in all kind of sports. Football, basketball, MMA etc. It has to stop!

@Abunajohn They know that such an announcement would just cause major schisms within Orthodoxy, it won't work. The anti Rome mindset is deeply rooted in the soul of most Orthodox nations. Not even the Greeks would fully get behind that.

I believe there will be no full union between Rome and Ecumenical Patriarchate in the future. Rome knows union with EP comes with serious, very costly baggage. On the other hand, Moscow and Rome have a real chance of union because Moscow does not need any financial help to make the change.

BREAKING: this is the best and most sincere thing Pope Leo has published as Pope. Pope Leo begs the Society not to take this schismatic act, warning it constitutes "grave sin."
Michael Haynes 🇻🇦@MLJHaynes

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV writes to the SSPX warning against the planned consecrations Says it would be a “sin of the utmost gravity” Adds: “The Church is open to a path of dialogue and understanding that the Holy Spirit can make possible and fruitful” Full letter below —— With a paternal heart, and aware of the responsibility entrusted to me by the Lord as the Successor of the Apostle Peter, I address you and, through you, the bishops, priests, seminarians and faithful connected to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X. The Church recognizes the devotion to liturgical life, commitment to priestly formation, apostolic zeal and desire for fidelity to Tradition that characterize many people and communities connected to your Fraternity. This has motivated the attentive and generous attitude that my Predecessors have consistently shown to you. In this spirit, and filled with Christian affection, I plead with you and ask you with all my heart: please turn back! I urge you to consider carefully the spiritual good of the faithful, because the schismatic act you are about to undertake would deprive them of the licit and, in some cases, even valid reception of the Sacraments, which they love and seek for their sanctification. The Church is open to a path of dialogue and understanding that the Holy Spirit can make possible and fruitful. I pray for you, because to tear the seamless garment of Christ is a sin of extreme gravity. May the Lord enlighten your consciences and awaken your hearts. With a sorrowful yet hopeful heart, I feel it is my duty, through the authority received from Christ, to ask you to desist from your intended act. I entrust these intentions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Good Counsel.   From the Vatican, 29 June 2026 Solemnity of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul   LEO PP. XIV

People really underestimate him. After Scaloni the best coach of the tournament. Stabilized Germany again and although we have a weaker squad than 2016-2024 we are playing very good. Would’ve probably won the Euros too at home if we get that pen. I trust him a lot man
