“Why I, as a Black man, attend KKK rallies.” Before you comment, no, we’re not suggesting you befriend a KKK member. @RealDarylDavis's work is an extreme example of the power of conversation, but the message behind it rings true for all of us. For over 40 years, he has been sitting down with white supremacists to have conversations that some might say are impossible. These conversations are based on five core values: love, respect, the need to be heard, fairness, and truthfulness. What Daryl has done is clearly not easy; it’s something few of us have the strength, ability, or motivation to do. But his work serves as an example of how, when we are able to transcend hate and anger, we can accomplish things that many see as miraculous. Daryl has shown us that dialogue, even with those whose views are repugnant and dangerous, is where real change happens. Daryl’s work teaches us that change doesn’t come from fighting; it comes from the courage to sit down, listen, and speak with respect. Our skins may vary, but our hearts beat the same rhythm. Let's tune into harmony, not discord.

That's what it's all about. It's about exposure. It's about opportunity. it's about dialogue. And it's about closing that gap between the unknow and the fear of the unknown.

It's not about converting; it's about conversing. Understanding comes from dialogue, not debate.

As you build upon those commonalities, you're forming a relationship. And as you build about a relationship, you're forming a friendship.

Prejudice is the emotional commitment to ignorance.

I never set out to convert anyone in the Klan. I just set out to get an answer to my question: "How can you hate me when you don't even know me?"

Challenge yourself this holiday season: engage with someone you might not normally connect with. Find just one thing you have in common. Even if it feels like a small moment, I guarantee it plants a seed. Small, incremental steps can unravel misconceptions and spark profound change over time. Let’s build bridges, one conversation at a time.
