Other than the fact that this is pure midwittery, the word Father is literally the same word as the Greek πατήρ. It's the same indo-european root. So yes, you would have said "father" back then.

Gavin is not in any way gay. But he is desperately clinging to a view about Israel and Jews that is deeply uninformed. I am his age, from a nearly identical milieu (art, music, culture worker.) No generation was more steeped in pro-Jew programming than ours - it was Jews in every direction. I saw through it 15 years ago. He’s apparently dying on the hill of “I’m no anti-Semite!” But he’s sincere about it. He’s no agent. He’s just heavily programmed, like a mammoth trapped in a tar pit.

Comparing the Roman Empire of the Byzantine period, which considers different sects just as bad as heathenry, to America which at best is based on religiously pluralistic form of christianity is not even crazy it is just fanatically wrong.
