Why should you care about Australia’s political prisoner? Joel Davis spent 133 days locked up without trial over a single social media post telling people to ratio a politician. He was charged with “using a carriage service to harass”, not for the actual words he used, but for allegedly directing others to flood her comments. Even a plain “go ratio her” could get you the same charge under this vague old law. The AFP National Security team labelled him a threat, threw him into Long Bay’s punishment ward with 23–24 hour lockdown, no TV, no Bible, no priest, restricted showers, and cut off all contact with his lawyer. Bail was denied three times while prosecutors delayed the case to the point magistrates even complained about the stalling. Meanwhile, people who made direct threats to the Prime Minister walked free the same day. If they can do this to him over one post, they can do it to you. You’re just not the target… yet.

Today marks 205 years of Greek independence. I was grateful to stand in solidarity with Greek Orthodox New Yorkers at the Divine Liturgy, commemorating this triumph of self-determination. From Athens to Astoria, we are reminded that true freedom is the ability to live without fear and shape our own futures. That is the autonomy we are fighting to secure for every single New Yorker. In the words of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, let us march with deep gratitude for the sacrifices that have made our lives possible. Ζήτω η Ελλάδα!
