@superfeyn It's a bit of a variation on the theme, but you might enjoy the book Saturn's Children. Humanity has died, leaving behind a civilisation of the robots that had been made to serve us. A solar system full of beings engineered to fulfil specific roles that now have no purpose.

I like it when sci-fi species genetically engineer themselves for specific purposes (like Tau's selective breeding for their castes or the Votann's use of Cloneskeins)
