The Nigerian Mirror: A Scientific Autopsy of our Leadership Crisis 🇳🇬!
We often call our politicians evil...We aren’t wrong.
But we are missing the most painful scientific truth: The leader is simply a scaled-up version of the citizen.
In science, when you cannot test an entire population of millions, you take a random sample.
Our politicians did not drop from the sky. They were sampled from our streets, our schools, our markets, and our homes and if the sample consistently shows the same traits; corruption, corner-cutting, entitlement, then it is a true representation of the populace.
They are us. We are them.
Why does the same Nigerian suddenly behave “correctly” the moment he lands in London or Washington DC?
Listen, in biology, this is called Phenotypic Plasticity, where the organism changes its behavior to survive in a new environment.
In Nigeria, our system rewards the “smart” corner-cutter. It punishes integrity and makes honesty a competitive disadvantage.
“Opportunity makes the thief...the an who does not steals considers himself an honest man.”
Psychology teaches us that MANY people are only “honest” because they lack the opportunity to be otherwise. True character is not the absence of temptation, it is refusing to steal even when the door is wide open.
The man hurling insults at the President today may be the same person using “smartness” to jump queues, cheat clients, inflate contracts, or cut corners in his private dealings. The only difference is not the character, it is the availability of opportunity.
Our national corruption is not an isolated disease. It is a fractal, I mean the same destructive pattern repeating at every scale, from the smallest private transaction to the highest level of government.
This is why changing the “cloth” (political party or leader) without treating the “body” (our collective mindset) always produces the same result.
We don’t need another Messiah, we need a National Reset. It must begin at the root; with our children.
We must deliberately re-code their minds to reject the lie that “the Nigerian way” is clever survival, whereas it is actually a slow collective suicide.
Until we stop worshipping the “smart man” and start honouring the “just man,” we will continue recycling the same sickness with different faces.
"The experiment starts with the man in the mirror."
