The scene where Vytautas the great comes back as a force ghost to say "zoomers ain't shit" was kino. I also liked the bits about individual heroic deeds of certain nobles during battle, usually culminating with a last stand. Reading Egil's Saga next.

My thoughts on Radviliada: It was nice to read an epic concerning Lithuania. My favorite parts were about the more everyday life of Radvila the Red, his education, and deeds after the Livonian war.

@RealSkyMann It's honestly incredible how much the odds have been stacked against our persistence, and yet here we are.

@RealSkyMann Honestly, the deeper you delve into history, the more you kinda understand that we've really left our brothers down by letting them be fucked, raped and enslaved by Tatars, only to bail out westoids in Vienna, who look at us as some second tier subhumans to be ripped off anyways.

@vytejok @SocDane What are you talking about? The very first thing Lithuania did after declaring independence was fight a war with Poland over Vilnius that was marred by both sides ethnically repressing the other's minorities. Lithuania only came into control of Vilnius because of the Soviets!

It's painful how historically illiterate some people are simply due to the fact that Russia being an aggressor in Ukraine has blinded them to everything else.

@climbingtobron1 @bokoen1 The big problem with russia is that while every other nation in the west modernised and recognised the evils of their past, russia still exists as if it is perpetually the 1800s and imperialism is still a-okay and just dandy!

@vytejok @SocDane Yeah, cause you lost the war lmao. Poland controlled Vilnius in the interwar period, and I don't see many Lithuanians eager to reverse the Soviet Union's decision to give the city to Lithuania!

@vladimirxyimir Considering this was written 50 years after the first text in Lithuanian and there being no standard for writing down these names natively, I don't think there's anything contradictory. Even in the 1800s Lithuanian text was wildly different from today.

@vladimirxyimir Yet you call these latinized slavic exonyms despite the fact that there are several deviations from them. For one, this text is written by a Lithuanian who would know the difference hence why Keystut doesn't become Keystutus, but has an -is ending as does the modern LT version.

@RealSkyMann Those are obviously latinate versions of the same well known slavic renditions of those names. You think that Boleslaus and Sventopolcus were Lithuanians as well?
