🇩🇪🇧🇦🇭🇷 Edin Biber (2009) seems like another really interesting prospect from the diaspora in Germany. A regular for Germany U17, 27 G/A in 20 matches for Gladbach. At first glance, he seems more like a SS/10, but can also play deeper as an 8 to some extent. Small-space manipulator and creative under pressure. Comfortable with both feet in dribbling and passing. Set-piece taker in all situations. He also has decent acceleration over short distances. He’s a bit lightweight, but works very hard out of possession and uses his body quite well in duels and for loose balls. His intent and technique when shielding the ball when receiving are good, but can sometimes be problematic against bigger opponents. More of a physical thing. Seems most comfortable operating in the pockets and solving problems in tight spaces. Can feed teammates and create openings in crowded areas. I don’t have access to his footage at Borussia Gladbach, where his numbers are very high (only watched his 🇩🇪 matches), so it’s harder to get a full picture regarding his potential in the final third. When playing deeper, he’s mainly interesting for his ability to recycle & escape pressure with quick feet and his willingness to hustle. He’s also had progressive moments where he efficiently carries the ball over distance in open space and transitions. His passing range can still improve. We already have our Sandžos in Germany’s U19s & U21s, but Biber, Turbić & Brkić look like the next Bosnian-German generation. Biber has shown enough promising ingredients to keep a closer eye on him, both in terms of his ceiling and with the senior national team in mind considering that a technical profile like him would be very welcome centrally.
