By now, people should have seen Seyi Makinde's outburst about religion.
Number one, it's unnecessary and unbecoming of a Politician who got there through Muslim support too.
One thing, many of us are thankful for, is the ability to document things and put them into perspective.
Seyi Makinde said, the 3 Senators in Oyo are Muslims.
Good of him. What he didn't say, was that if it was up to him. No single Muslim would be a Senator in Oyo State.
Oyo PDP chose Bisi Ilaka, (Oyo Central).
Joseph Tegbe ( Oyo South), and Akinwale Solomon Akinwole (Oyo North) ", all Christians as Senatorial Canddiates of the PDP in 2023.
They simply were defeated by the APC.
Oyo having Muslim Senators wasn't because of Seyi Makinde. It was INSPITE of Seyi Makinde.
Had Seyi Makinde had his way. The Governor, Speaker (Debo Ogundoyin),Secretary to State Government, all 3 Senators would have been Christians.
Add up the initial 16 appointments he made, where only 5 Muslims emerged.
Let's now go back in history.
Oyo's First Governor was Bola Ige. Its Deputy was Sunday Afolabi, signifying a Christian-Christian ticket in 1979.
In 1983, another Christian, Victor Omololu Olunloyo became Governor.
In 1992, another Christian, Kolapo Ishola emerged Governor.
Oyo's first Muslim Governor was in 1999, with Alhaji Lam Adesina emerging.
Even since then, Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala and Seyi Makinde have been other Christian's who have emerged in Oyo.
The challenge with politicians like Seyi Makinde trying to use religion, is that they only look at things from one prism, and not bring out talking points that will leave him tongue-tied, when responses start flowing.
If he knows how to talk, others know how to listen and discern.
