Today was another shorter session of our home OD&D/Swords & Wizardry campaign with the kids. We often do that where we just sit together for 1-2 hours to keep the campaign moving forward, in addition to our longer 3-4 hour sessions (that’s the max attention span for this with a 5-year-old). Today they spent time in the town of Evan’s Hold, finishing up details from their last outing, figuring out which possible paths/leads/rumors to follow, picking one, gearing up, and then heading out. The next session will focus on their 1-2 day trip north as guards for a cloth merchant. They want to get enough coin together so that they can get their own expeditionary force together to explore some island ruins (that they know are dangerous). ⚔️ 💀 #ODnD #DnD #OSR #ttrpg

After spending Sunday playing Chainmail with my son, I’ve had wargame campaigns back on my mind (also in the context of ongoing OD&D or AD&D campaigns in my setting or Greyhawk). So I’m once again going through this great book on Tony Bath’s approach to wargame campaigns, including his famous Hyborian campaign. ⚔️ #wargaming #DnD #ODnD #ADnD #ttrpg #OSR

@DungeonNoir I absolutely love Forbidden Lands. The setting is awesome, the premise for adventuring is awesome, and I also really like the Year Zero d6 system as applied here.

Forbidden Lands is an award-winning, "open-world survival" tabletop role-playing game published by Free League Publishing in 2018. It is set in a dark fantasy world where players act as raiders and rogues exploring a cursed, uncharted land, focusing on hex-crawling, survival, and building their own stronghold.

“In your narrative that you’ve built [as the DM].” Is the “Mercer effect” just railroading players? Is it removing player agency and choice? Is it that players should just follow the plot line of his story (novel) that he wants people to just act in?
