This was one of the sharp boys who was arrested yesterday for allegedly conning people via M-Pesa in parts of Machakos. He was among those known for editing messages when it comes to M-Pesa scams. It is said that he had a strategy where he would visit you and try to observe whether your M-Pesa transaction SIM and your personal phone were the same device. If he noticed that, he would see it as a jackpot. He would then ask to borrow your phone, claiming he wanted to call someone and pass them details so they could withdraw money. In the process, he would save the number he is calling under a name like M-Pesa. After that, a carefully edited message would be sent to you requesting authorization for a withdrawal. If you were not keen enough, you could easily end up being his next victim. However, yesterday marked the end of his run—his 40 days finally caught up with him.
