Sharon Tsay gave a very informative update on @CDC_AR stewardship activities. Interesting trends in prescribing during COVID. Spoiler alert—that initial drop in outpatient abx prescribing didn’t last, but lots of work being done to optimize abx use across settings. #PedsASP2022

Lots of variability in practice, but some consensus to use vanc empirically, for rule outs, and CNS infection. Consider alternatives (dapto, ceftaroline, linezolid) for children with complicated MRSA infections, risk factors for poor outcomes, or toxicity. #PedsASP2022

Newer agents show promise for 📉 toxicity and *maybe* 📈efficacy, but data are still lacking in a lot of areas, especially dosing in children for some infections, ie bacteremia and 🧠 for ceftaroline. And jury is still out on risk of resistance. #PedsASP2022
