Welcome to The Recruiting Room. I’m a college scout, former NCAA coach, and current high school football coach. I created this page to give athletes and families honest, practical recruiting advice based on real evaluation and recruiting experience. Don’t wait until you need offers to start building relationships. The best time to introduce yourself to coaches was months ago. The second-best time is today.

If you’re paying to attend camps hoping coaches from other colleges will see you, you’re likely wasting your time. College coaches can only evaluate prospects at camps hosted on their own campus during this period. Be strategic with your time and money. The right camp at the right school is always better than just another camp.

Don’t wait until your senior year to build relationships. The earlier coaches know your name… The better.

Your film gets you noticed. Your communication gets you recruited. Don’t neglect either.

The best recruiters don’t chase every school. They target the right ones. Recruit smart.

Recruiting isn’t about one great camp, one highlight, or one email. It’s about what you do every single day. The athletes who consistently: ✅ Improve their film ✅ Communicate with coaches ✅ Take care of their academics ✅ Develop their skills put themselves in the best position to play at the next level. Consistency creates opportunity. 💬 Which of these five habits are you focusing on the most right now?

Stop asking… “Why haven’t I gotten an offer?” Start asking… “What can I improve before the next coach watches my film?” Every time a coach clicks your Hudl, you have an opportunity. Make sure your: ✅ Film is updated ✅ GPA is listed ✅ X profile is complete ✅ Communication is professional You can’t control every recruiting decision. Before you ask… “Can I play Division I?” Ask yourself: • Have I maxed out my GPA? • Is my film truly my best? • Have I consistently contacted coaches? • Have I attended the right camps? • Am I open to the right fit and not just the biggest name? Most athletes don’t miss opportunities because of talent. They miss opportunities because they don’t have a plan. Before you hit SEND on that recruiting email… Ask yourself: ✅ Is my Hudl updated? ✅ Does my X profile have all my information? ✅ Am I emailing the correct position coach? ✅ Did I personalize the message? Five extra minutes can make a huge difference!

If you’re emailing a coach every week… and nothing is changing. Stop sending the same email. Instead, send an UPDATE: 🏈 New film 📈 New GPA 💪 New measurables 🏕️ Camp schedule 📊 Season stats Give coaches a reason to open your email again.

The biggest recruiting mistake I see? Athletes chasing the logo instead of finding the right fit. Find the school that believes in you. Then go prove everyone else wrong.

Before you spend hundreds of dollars on camps… Ask yourself: ✅ Does this school realistically fit my talent level? ✅ Have I emailed the coaching staff? ✅ Have they seen my film? ✅ Do they recruit my area? A targeted camp is almost always more valuable than attending 10 random camps. Recruit smart, not just hard. 🏈 What class are you? 2027, 2028, 2029, or 2030?

Easy rule: The harder it is to find your information, the less likely a coach is to keep looking. Make your profile coach-friendly.

Most athletes don’t need more exposure. They need a better plan. • Who should I email? • When should I follow up? • Which camps are worth attending? • What level do I realistically fit? A recruiting strategy beats random outreach every time.

A teammate’s offer isn’t competition. It’s exposure. College coaches often discover multiple prospects from one school visit. Be supportive. Be visible. Be ready when your opportunity comes.

One thing recruits don’t realize: When coaches come to your school for a teammate, that’s a good thing. More coaches in the building means more eyes on every athlete. Social media is your digital resume. Every post should answer one question: “Why should a coach recruit me?” Show your development, work ethic, academics, and character consistently.
