I write crime-mystery novels—most of the time. I've also got a novella about the life and death of Edgar Allan Poe. All come with historical references and unexpected twists. Ben Gilsum Series or Denying The Stylus. Links for purchase or signed copies. redcliffpress.wordpress.com

@DanaSingletonh I told my story in such a way that there was some big reveal at every paragraph. Or was there? It's short, like most of Poe's art. It's me, and my story, but in my interpretation of a Poe story.

@RedCliffPress Also I’m curious, when you shift between writing in Poe’s style and your own, does it change how you feel as a writer in the moment? Like, do you find yourself slipping into a different creative mindset?

@DanaSingletonh Poe has a style that's so familiar and enjoyable to me. The best way to explain it is that feeling of waiting for the jump scare in a scary movie. You know it's coming, but it still gets you. Constant suspense.

@DanaSingletonh The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, Poe's only novel, told a story that predated an actual event. Same name and all. That's a well known one, but I add an explanation. There's a few more like that.

@RedCliffPress That’s a thoughtful way to honor Poe, blending fact with style in a respectful nod to his legacy. Mimicking someone so iconic isn’t easy, but it sounds like you approached it with both skill and heart.

@DanaSingletonh Hi Dana. I'm a huge fan of Poe and I wrote Denying The Stylus because I wanted to share some incredibly interesting facts about him and also, respectfully, to try and mimic the legend's style. I did include plenty of accurate history, which I'm used to doing, with some liberties.

@RedCliffPress That’s an intriguing mix. What drew you to explore Poe’s life and do you approach historical stories differently than your mystery series?

I wrote LOU when I was feeling low and wondered about my own potential to make books and I do not take for granted the love LOU has received. (But seriously, I left a workshop crying then saw a peed on fire hydrant and was inspired to write LOU!) Thank you @BNBuzz #bnbookawards

@J_RomanceWriter Oh wait...the second to last guy already figured that out. So the second thing I think of is that I should pay more attention to what I'm looking at.

@J_RomanceWriter The guys at the end of the line should seriously consider closing their umbrellas, and slowly walking away. Or running...
