In 2025, the Cascades Region has provided relief and recovery to over 900 households, collected over 166,000 units of blood, supported over 5,000 service members through our Service to the Armed Forces program and trained over 50,000 people in CPR, first aid, babysitting, and water safety. Red Cross Month culminates with Red Cross Giving Day, which will be held this year on March 25. It’s an opportunity for people to come together on one day to help families recover from a home fire or other disaster across the country. This is your chance to make a difference and it starts at redcross.org/GivingDay.

And the Oscar goes to......🎉......our Red Cross Cascades volunteers! Did you know they put in more than 244,000 hours in 2025. I know, right? Impressive! Responding to home fires, opening shelters during wildfires, teaching preparedness, staffing blood drives, and delivering blood products too, we couldn't do it without them! This Red Cross Month, we thank them for their award winning work🏆today, and always! #RedCrossMonth #Volunteers

This week, Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers responded to 13 disasters, helping 23 adults, 13 children, and 15 household animals across our community. During Wednesday’s multi-family fire in Woodburn, responders worked for hours outside in the cold and rain to assist eight affected families. Beyond completing casework, the team made sure children on scene had food, diapers, and formula while families got the help they needed. This is what Red Cross volunteers do every day: show up with compassion when it matters most. Want to make a difference in your community? Join us: redcross.org/volunteer

The Red Cross has offered assistance to families affected by the landslide at the Indian Hills apartment complex in SW Portland. Residents in seven units are not being allowed back in because the landslide has impeded the stairwell accessing the units. If you are affected by this slide, please call 1-800-RED-CROSS. More rain is coming. Be safe out there!

Thanks to Brookings Mayor Phoebe Pereda for her proclamation honoring Red Cross Month. March has been recognized as Red Cross Month since WWII. It's a time to reflect on the work we do and thank volunteers like Karyn Johnsen Dagenais and Bob Oneida (seen in this picture) for always answering the call. It is through partnerships like these that we are able to be there for folks in times of disaster and when they need it most. #HelpCan'tWait #RedCrossMonth

March is Red Cross Month, a time to celebrate the generosity of blood donors who help save lives every day. This year, we’re showing our appreciation by offering something in return: free A1C testing for anyone who makes a successful blood donation during March. But what is the A1C test? This test is a a common tool used to detect prediabetes and diabetes. It measures how much sugar is attached to your hemoglobin—the protein in the red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your body. A1C levels are defined as shown in the graphic. Click here to continue reading about why it's important to check your A1C levels: rdcrss.org/4sFCTM3 Saving lives, receiving an extra health test for free and a $15 gift card? That's a win, win, win! Schedule your appointment to donate blood at rdcrss.org/3onT0Nj.

Who knew you could have so much fun hanging out with a bunch of dummies? The U of O Red Cross Club, that's who. They completed our Red Cross First Aid and CPR training and had a great time doing it. Did you know CPR can double or triple someone’s chance of surviving when bystanders take action? These women do. They are now part of an incredible group of 8,000 people who receive Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED Training every day. Way to go!

Ten homes and 26 people are safer in Southwest Washington today. This past weekend, we installed 42 FREE smoke alarms, 2 bed shakers and 3 strobes as part of our home fire campaign. Home fires are the most common disaster we respond to. We know that working smoke detectors and an escape plan are the difference between life and death in a home fire. Want to learn how we can make your home safer? Go to RedCross.Org/HomeFire 🔥

Is it daylight savings time already? Yes! So, when you spring your clocks forward one hour this weekend, make sure you check your smoke alarm batteries too. Smoke alarms can cut your risk of death from a home fire in half. Lean more here: rdcrss.org/3OPyS9a

Red Cross volunteer, Jens Haetty, is a disaster movie aficionado and there's a recurring scene that stands out to him. "One thing that happens in 80% of those movies is the mob storms the supermarkets for the last can of soup. I don't want to be that person. I want to be somebody already prepared for that." Jens is passionate about teaching others how to avoid mobbing the stores when disaster hits by being prepared with a go bag, a plan and to stay informed. Jens, along with other Red Crossers, showed up at the Elks Lodge in Hillsboro to teach the community about all the services we provide while a successful blood drive ran in the room next door. Thank you to everyone who attended our one One Red Cross event! If you missed out, you can check out our website RedCross.Org/Cascades and follow us to hear about upcoming events!
