I just think this generation of black men is more aware of what's going on and what's happening in media. I think the Gen X and Baby Boomer black men were way too passive about anything that was said about them. That passiveness led to a world where people now use media to tarnish us and talk crazy about us with really no pushback. Really think about it. If you watch a movie and then a TV show and then you read a book and then now you open social media, it's all giving you the same message about this person over time. It's going to slowly start to impact your perception of that person. The crazy part is this isn't even just a black man thing. This is not something that's happening to men overall in the West. The way men are perceived and talked about in schools or universities goes so much deeper than just one specific movie. It's really just a pattern. If you look at the workforce right now, a lot of stuff that's happening is putting men on a lower pedestal. If you do deeper research outside of just narratives on Twitter, you'll see that it's not about a movie or one show, one director. It's much more than that.
