Friday, January 23, 2026 8:00 AM UPDATE:
@NWSNewOrleans has given a 15% chance of probability for Freezing Rain for Sunday. They expect minor/moderate impacts for Baton Rouge, but the degree of impact remains in question. Following the precipitation, very cold air filters into the region, lows in the teens Monday & Tuesday mornings.

English

Another weather system will be moving into the area Friday into Saturday, bringing rain chances and the risk for freezing rain through the weekend.
Freezing Rain can make surfaces slippery, including roadways, overpasses, and sidewalks. Use caution when venturing outdoors and don’t forget the P’s of winter - People, Pets, Plants, Pipes, and Practice fire safety.
#RedStickReady

English

As the freezing temperatures move into the area, remember these #RedStickReady Safety Tips:
🚨 Install and test smoke alarms.
🔌 Plug space heaters directly into outlets.
🧯 Heat your home safely.
🧹 Keep chimney and vents clean.
🪵 Use fireplaces safely.

English

A cold front will move through the area late Friday night, with attention turning to Saturday evening, when temperatures are expected to drop to around 30° with a chance of light precipitation.
The National Weather Service has low confidence that precipitation could change from rain to snow, and ground conditions are not favorable for accumulation. However, regardless of the type of precipitation, temperatures will be at or below freezing.
❄️ Remember the Important Ps of Cold Weather:
🥶 People: Dress warmly, limit time outdoors, and check on family, friends, and neighbors—especially older adults.
🐕🦺 Pets: Bring pets indoors to protect them from the cold.
🌱 Plants: Bring plants inside or cover them to help prevent cold damage.
🚰 Pipes: Cover and insulate exposed pipes ahead of freezing conditions.
🚨 Prevent Heating Fires: Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working, plug space heaters directly into wall outlets, and keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heat sources.
Stay warm and Stay #RedStickReady
