@Emmie_exx Hear me out. All transphobic people are actually skinwalkers. They BENEFIT from the idea that identity is rigid and constant, because it creates a world where their camouflage cannot be questioned. "You can't change your sex" THAT'S WHAT A SKINWALKER WOULD SAY

@highfreqhertz @JackWhitlock @ironcrakka All human-rated spacecrafts, with an exception of atmospheric ascent phase, need a manual control *option*. That's it, that's the whole point, otherwise it's a death trap. Starship is a death trap

I'm trying to be thorough about the points I'm making, but if you have an issue with that and want the short, abrasive version, I could call you a retard who's been citing the OIG as evidence for made-up info. You can stop reading here if you want. Keep in mind that every crewed spacecraft since Gemini has had some form of digital computer to translate human input into electronic commands, as the reliance on computers is one of the things you've been repeating over and over throughout the thread. This doesn't just include crafts with rudimentary computer flying in LEO. Orion, which is well on its way to the Moon, is using triple redundant radiation-hardened flight computers that have been performing just fine, and, afaik, even in the event of an issue requiring manual control, would command engine burns based on those inputs. I have no idea why you previously brought up the computers as some kind of issue, as if SpaceX just up and forgot about radiation.

@KCthehamster @highfreqhertz @JackWhitlock @ironcrakka Solar events are not a guarantee, but also not something you'd want to ignore on a crewed landing on the Moon without a backup plan. Manual control is the backup plan. Crew Dragon was required to implement manual control by NASA.

@highfreqhertz @JackWhitlock @ironcrakka Chatgpt wall of text without any new point added to the conversation. A disagreement means two parties disagree. One party says "safety" another says "no", it's that simple.

There’s a few things I’d like to point out, first of all, the report doesn’t say SpaceX is refusing to implement manual control, only that there is a disagreement as to whether or not SpaceX’s current implementation meets contractual obligations, as it seems NASA is unhappy with Starship HLS’s “manual control risk”. Like Dragon, there will almost certainly be a compromise, (afaik there has to be, as NASA is in charge when it comes to their astronauts), and the report never said that Starship HLS doesn’t have any way for the crew to command the flight computers to execute maneuvers, so it feels to me like you are jumping right to a conclusion that has no evidence to support it. The second thing is that, given the mass and size of HLS and all of the sensors providing a multitude data to to the flight computers, I’d trust those computer over a human any day of the week, especially with the triple redundant design, in which the other 2 computers check the work of the first, and can override it if they detect an issue. Manual control, to some degree, will likely be implemented, but it will almost certainly not be used unless the crew win a lottery ticket from hell. And with the cyclotron they recently acquired, SpaceX can make adjustments to ensure radiation doesn’t pose a risk to the craft, which is important because if the computers controlling engine firing sequences go down, you’re shit out of luck regardless of if there’s an option to manually control HLS.

@JackWhitlock @highfreqhertz @ironcrakka That is precisely the problem! They shouldn't, because the vessel is fundamentally unsafe! If a human cannot control a vessel, it is either a FBW-only fighter jet(in atmosphere, not on the Moon) or a death trap

@Red_Ender666 @highfreqhertz @ironcrakka NASA did not reopen the contact because they don’t think Starship is safe. They wanted proposals for accelerating the first landing mission. Also, just how do you expect humans to safely control a 150-foot-tall lander?

@JackWhitlock @highfreqhertz @ironcrakka NASA has not forgotten, that is precisely my point - they know it's unsafe, why else would they open up to Blue Origin as a plan B for when Space X refuses to make Starship safe?

@Red_Ender666 @highfreqhertz @ironcrakka The only person assuming here is you. You are assuming that the best GNC engineers on Earth and NASA have forgotten about bit flips. You don’t develop the most reliable rocket in history (Falcon 9) by forgetting these things.
