@RedistrictFdn has fought for VRA-compliant maps in LA and AL since our founding. We challenged both states' congressional maps in 2018, and again after 2020, leading to the Milligan win out of AL just 2 years ago. My thoughts after being at #SCOTUS today for LA vs Callais:

The VRA of 1965 established the fundamental principle that every American, regardless of race or color, has the right to vote. At a time where racial discrimination in our elections remains pervasive, our lawmakers must recommit to the restoration of the VRA in its entirety.

The panel also made clear that individual voters *can* enforce the VRA, the second federal court in as many weeks to do so!

🆕⚖️Just in: The federal district court in our Alabama case rejected the state defendants’ motion to dismiss the NRF's Section 2 lawsuit—marking another crucial milestone in our fight to ensure fair representation for AL voters and to make permanent our 2023 SCOTUS victory!

Today, in a major victory for voters, a GA court struck down the state’s congressional and state leg. maps as violations of Section 2 of the VRA. After initiating these challenges in 2021, we are thrilled with this giant step toward equal representation! bit.ly/3s9FS5I

Alabama has a new, fairer congressional map that gives Black voters an equal opportunity to elect a candidate of their choice.  This is a historic win for voting rights and democracy, and it happened thanks to the hard work of Black voters, advocates, and organizations like @RedistrictFdn.

The court ordered victory today - creating a new black opportunity district for Congress in Alabama - is for my late sister in law Vivian and those other black Alabamians - here and gone - too long denied equal representation. Their commitment and sacrifice made this day possible

⚖️BREAKING: A federal panel in Alabama has just adopted a #FairMap that complies with SCOTUS’ order to include a second district in which Black voters can elect their candidate of choice. This is a huge victory for voting rights. We’re beyond proud to have been part of this team.

⚖️In another victory for Alabama voters, SCOTUS has rejected (with no noted dissents) an attempt by the state of AL to stop the remedial mapdrawing process taking place as a result of Allen v. Milligan – meaning the new map will move forward without delay. bit.ly/45dkFVL

🔔 BREAKING: SCOTUS has denied Alabama's emergency motion for stay in Allen v. Milligan — that means that Alabama's desperate effort to stop the remedial mapdrawing process has thus-far been unsuccessful. The remedial process will continue. 🗺️
