Redmond Public Works is responding to a water main break on NE 24th St. between 184th Ave. NE and 185th Pl. NE. This required an emergency road closure. Crews expect to have a detour set up within the next hour to route traffic around the break and the road should fully reopen later today.

During National Safe Place Week, March 15 through 21, we are proud to highlight Redmond Police Department’s Safe Place program, a powerful community partnership dedicated to supporting victims of bias-based and hate crimes. Look for the Safe Place decal at participating local businesses. It is a clear signal that if you are experiencing harassment or hate, you can step inside, call 911, and wait in a safe, supportive space until officers arrive. This program reflects our ongoing commitment to a welcoming and inclusive community where hate has no place, and everyone deserves to feel safe. Don’t rely on the luck of the Irish today! Our officers will be out in full force this St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 If your plans include raising a glass, make sure you’ve got a shamrock-solid plan to get home: designated driver or rideshare. Because the only thing that should be getting lit tonight is your festive spirit. Thanks for helping keep our roads safe!

Redmond Police Take the Plunge for Special Olympics! Redmond Police officers braved the polar conditions and jumped into Lake Sammamish on March 14 for the 2026 Annual Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Washington. It was 36 degrees outside, snow on the ground, and 43-degree water, and at one point it was even snowing. Together, Team Redmond Five-O raised $1,000 to help support athletes across our state through Special Olympics Washington. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and cheered us on. We are especially grateful to our partners at the @IssaquahPolice, @BvuePD, Sammamish Police Department, and the @kingcosoPIO King County Sheriff's Office for braving the cold with us to support such an incredible cause. #PolarPlungeWA #BeBoldGetCold #specialolympics

Three Years Without Answers: Help Us Find Justice for Samantha Windsor On March 14, 2023, at about 4:10 a.m., Redmond Police responded to a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in the 14300 block of Old Redmond Road. Tragically, 26-year-old Samantha Windsor lost her life. At the time, there was no vehicle description and no video footage capturing the incident, making the investigation especially challenging. Three years later, Samantha’s family continues to grieve and search for answers about what happened that morning. Redmond Police are still actively investigating and are asking the community for help. Even the smallest detail could make a difference. If you have any information or video footage related to this incident, please contact the Redmond Police Department at 425-556-2500. Thank you for your support in helping bring answers to Samantha’s family.

❄️Snow Patrol… but make it fun. Between responding to downed power lines and fallen trees today, officers found time for some important community work: snowball fights and sledding with kids at Meadow Park. 🛷 Turns out, building snow memories is just as important as clearing snowy roads. Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy the snow, Redmond!

As Black History Month comes to a close, we’re proud to recognize Chief Darrell Lowe, who has served the Redmond Police Department and our community since 2019. Chief Lowe didn't choose law enforcement by accident. As a college freshman, a friend described life as a rookie LAPD officer, and something clicked. He's been serving communities ever since. Today, Chief Lowe leads the Redmond Police Department, bringing experience and vision that most agencies spend decades developing. He rose through the ranks of the Santa Monica Police Department, earned advanced degrees from Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Northridge, and graduated from both the FBI National Academy and Drucker School of Management. That foundation shows in how he leads. Under his watch, RPD launched Washington State's first Drone as First Responder (DFR) program, and it remains the longest operating in the state. Now he's building out a Real Time Information Center (RTIC) that's changing how officers respond, communicate, and stay safe on the job. He's not waiting for the future of policing to arrive. He's building it. His influence reaches well beyond Redmond. He serves on Washington State's AI Task Force. He has shaped policy through the Governor's Use of Deadly Force Task Force, the Washington Attorney General's Transition Committee, and the King County Exec Transition Committee. As a leader within Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) and a Strategic Advisor to NOBLE National, he's at the table when the decisions that shape public safety get made. Off duty, he's a devoted husband, father of two, and grandfather of four. His office reflects everything he loves: sneakers, wine, Dodgers, Rams, Lakers, and a career's worth of memories on the walls. His story deserves more than a recognition post. It's a blueprint for a premier agency. We’re grateful for his leadership and service to our community. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackExcellence #WASPC #NOBLE #DruckerSchool #KingCountyExecutive #RedmondPD #DroneAsFirstResponder #PublicSafety #LawEnforcementLeadership #AIinPublicSafety #TechForGood

@StartRunning2 Unfortunately, they weren't available when the calls came in, so our officers did the best they could to get the beaver to safety so it didn't get hit by passing cars.

@RedmondWaPD Maybe you should call a wildlife rescue and have this guy picked up. It’s not normal for them to hang out and busy intersections. You know what I mean? Like Sarvey wildlife.

Wildlife Enforcement Update On February 25, 2026, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Redmond Police officers responded to a report of a suspicious subject described as a "determined beaver" attempting to cross the road near the intersection of Avondale Rd. NE and NE 95th St. with zero regard for public safety. Despite clear verbal commands, the subject refused to comply and continued evading officers, demonstrating blatant disregard for crosswalks, traffic signals, and basic roadway safety rules. After several patient attempts and some skilled negotiations, officers successfully coaxed the beaver across the roadway and into a nearby wooded area, where he was last seen continuing his evening plans. During the incident, the beaver did deploy his tail in a brief act of resistance, slapping one officer’s hand. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. No arrests were made, and no citations were issued. We are told the suspect lacks both ID and a driver’s license. Please use caution in this area, especially at night. This individual has shown a clear pattern of ignoring traffic laws. Body worn camera footage courtesy of RPD, with additional cell phone footage generously contributed by Eyal Tropen. #WildlifeWednesday #OnlyInRedmond
