I’m opting out of the Rece Hinds Discourse™️ for the most part, but will add that there’s an interesting overlap of people who are convinced he wasn’t given a shot & the same folks who went a little overboard about Mike Ford a couple years ago.

@bryce_spalding We’ll even do you a favor and take on an expensive left-handed reliever + under-achieving near-Rule 5 eligible prospect for you too!

@JamseRick @DashboardBets Brewers, Rays, and Marlins are who I was thinking of specifically. Mariners perform really well at home too. Difference in the Rays pitching back at The Trop is why I’ve been thinking about it too.

Something I've found myself thinking about: A lot of small market / super savvy pitching dev teams have one thing in common: they play in domes. Most big market teams, though, play in open-air stadiums. Like, TOR & HOU are the only teams in top 12 payrolls that don't:

We know that there's a noticeable difference in Stuff+ playing in domed vs. open-air stadiums. There's also an inherent variance that gets introduced by weather. Curious to see if this becomes "a thing". Will more small-market teams go domed, or will big teams take the plunge?

@SenorFluffy33 @pitchprofiler I fear what they would do with Abbott and Lodolo. Could probably turn Lodolo into the Cy Young-level pitcher we all thought he could be. They'd have Abbott throwing a sinker yesterday. Feels nitpicky to complain about Burns, but they'd have him throwing 5 pitches by now too.

The Brewers crack me up. They took all of those pieces *and* added a sinker *and* tweaked Drohan's changeup to get some kind of ridiculous knuckle/splitter movement. Just moving differently than the rest of the league.

Kyle Harrison will get the headlines, but I'd bet Shane Drohan was the selling point in the deal for the Brewers. High-vert cutter ✅ Multiple breaking balls ✅ A straight-CH (with incredible Whiff Rates) ✅

@NEZtakes @pitchprofiler That, or whenever a big market team comes to their senses and does what the Dodgers did to the 2010's Rays infrastructure. Imagine Matt Arnold & this crew operating with a Dodgers payroll.

Agree completely with Bryce. Adding McCambley's pitch modelling metrics from the proStuff model for the month of May. Thought @yuggs513 had a good comparison to Scott Barlow. 2 fastballs, 2 breaking balls (CUT plays like a SL). Not on the 40-man & needs to rein in his command.

Wow. They got a big league arm for Rece Hinds? That’s pretty remarkable lol. Got picked in the R5 this year but didn’t make the Phillies roster. Has posted very good swing and miss numbers practically his whole career. Reliever. High level sweeper. Fastball isn’t great, but he doesn’t rely on it.

@CeeReds @pitchprofiler He could be right... I just hope they're being more cautious than that. As far as the corresponding move, I really don't what they'll do tbh. Could be anything from DFA'ing Hayes, demoting Friedl or Benson, or just demoting Dunn.

I might have a new favorite under-the-radar #Reds prospect: Deivi Villafana! Villafana has posted insanely impressive BB%’s so far in his professional career, all while sitting 95 with a legit changeup and breaking ball. Nice SwStr%’s too. Love the arm angle. Could be a guy!
