@wil_da_beast630 You only think that because you’re a racist. I hope that answers your question.

I’ll explain this like you’re five: People who spend decades researching complicated problems sometimes change their minds based on evidence. That’s called learning. If most experts in a field reach similar conclusions, your first question shouldn’t be, “Why are they all left-wing?” It should be, “What do they know that I don’t?” This really isn’t the flex you think it is.
Rothmus 🏴@Rothmus

Your median professor sits so far left that AOC, Sanders, and Warren would count as moderates in any faculty lounge. Faculty from 55 elite universities form one towering blue spike of ideology far out on the left, density exploding past 6, with virtually nothing on the conservative side. This was built through decades of selective hiring, social enforcement, and the systematic purge of dissent. And because they credential the people who run media, law, government, and tech, the monoculture leaks into every elite institution downstream.

@KEWLV1C She could easily disprove this. Why doesn’t she simply do it? It’s only rational to believe she does until then.

@mysty_man @_Credible_Hulk @dougburzum Your conclusion only follows if you already assume profits beyond labor value are inherently exploitative. Why should I accept that premise? If millions of people voluntarily buy a product because they value it more than the price they paid, where is the exploitation?

@ReedHawk2 @LadyRoseWales @OliLondonTV Of course there's millions of counter examples; a man is an adult human men, so male children are exempt. And yes, gender is a different, linguistic concept that correlates with sex when used to refer to living beings, but entirely irrelevant to this discussion.

@CodZill90263085 @Filibustre @AliceBright_ Persuasion is the means in both views. The question is the end. If morality is objective, persuasion aims at truth or correction. If morality is subjective, persuasion aims only at changing preferences. Those aren’t the same thing.

@ReedHawk2 @Filibustre @AliceBright_ Moral criticism is and always has been a matter of persuasion. Every major moral movement; the emancipation of slaves, women's suffrage, civil rights, was won on the backs of persuading entrenched agents who believed they were behaving within moral standards.

@Filibustre @CodZill90263085 @AliceBright_ Fair enough. But then moral criticism reduces to persuasion rather than correction. You’re not discovering moral truths—you’re attempting to change preferences. I’d argue that doesn’t capture what we ordinarily mean when we say someone ought not torture children.

@ReedHawk2 @CodZill90263085 @AliceBright_ That doesnt change the social dynamic, but it redefines what morality is. Not a system of true or false claims, but an expression of personal feelings individually and a system of ideological propagation at the whims of the people (usually the majority, or the powerful) at scale.

@CodZill90263085 @AliceBright_ People can disagree about what objective morality is, but that doesn’t make it an incoherent concept. People have disputes about science yet we don’t declare there is no objective truth.

@ReedHawk2 @AliceBright_ The catholic church that orchestrated the inquisition and the modern catholic church that condemns it had the same source for their "objective" moral standard. On what basis was the inquisition wrong if the institution and moral instruction were the same?

@prunskunas @nmlinguaphile It’s not so much communism proper as it is the quasi communistic ideology that’s been popularized among younger leftists—so-called “wokeness”.

@CodZill90263085 @AliceBright_ Having a rationale isn’t the same as having a justification that binds others. If someone rejects your foundational values, on what basis are they mistaken rather than merely disagreeing?

@ReedHawk2 @AliceBright_ Subjective morals still, often, have rationale. You can keep asking "and why does that matter?" to a certain level of granularity but you still arrive at something that is no more or less thought out than "IDK, god said it was bad".

@EricHogue0 @AliceBright_ I don’t think subjective means fake. I think it means its authority depends on a subject. The question remains: if someone doesn’t share your moral preferences, what makes their view wrong rather than merely different?

@mysty_man @_Credible_Hulk @dougburzum You’re arguing against exploitation, not billionaires. If a billionaire acquires wealth through voluntary exchange, where is the exploitation? “No one can personally do billions of dollars of labor” doesn’t establish that exploitation occurred.

@_Credible_Hulk @dougburzum Because extreme wealth hoarding firstly can only be done through the exploitation of labor as no one person can do billions of dollars worth of work, and secondly allowing so much power to be concentrated makes political corruption much easier to do by abusing that power.
