@BenYAndrew @armyemdoc Other aspects to consider: what triggers the decision to initiate a massive transfusion protocol (MTP)?Treatment to which endpoints? These (at least clinically) ultimately impact volumes/product transfused. We looked at MTP in peds (@LisaTracyMD) and it seems even less standard.

@armyemdoc Not very familiar w/ this literature, but it seems perhaps a more ideal definition (for research) is some assessment of the likelihood of requiring X amt of product. If the definition is 10 units in 24 h does that mean the trauma pt who gets 8 units but then passes didn’t get MT?

What defines a massive transfusion? It turns out there is no universal definition. Grateful for the mentorship on this residency-long project. A standardized protocol for airway management outside of the operating room maintained the standard of care and a high level of first pass success of tracheal intubation with the onset of the #COVID19 pandemic.
